If not and the other rad type is better what size in rows would you fit and would you still run it through the rad?

I know nothing BUT ... the complete absence of any information regarding the amount of heat transferred makes me a little uncomfortable since it's not the normal style cooler

Then again there'll be an expert along in a minute to say I'm talking b*ll*cks as usual !

Probably going to look at the rover 75 option as an assistor that can run in the aperture below the bumper and will be cheap from a scrappy otherwise any other long but low height one would be ideal.

Read loads of threads on this and dont do enough towing to be concerned about serious temperatures the worst it gets is when were loaded up with camping gear two bikes and a kayak on the roof and hit a hill in the summer. The added assistance would be as a safegaurd and nothing more.

If you're not towing anything really heavy and aren't doing long hills in hot weather then you probably don't need anything at all

Looks good, would go in line with the lower valence vents nicely.

Would be nice to get some specs though.

The stand alone B&M coolers I use are 13 or 14,000 BTU, the smaller inline with rad ones are about 1/2 that.

That'll be the B&M cooler you'll be fitting to either Jackie's current Surf or the new one if we find it (And some money) ...

                  It's rubbish!

All that will do is act like a sump or radiator heater depending on where you mount it of course.
Get yourself a proper 14 row (at least) cooler such as B&M, Fluidyne or MOCAL with a thermo switch and fan set-up and by-pass the in-rad cooler.

Nifty Nev from Oz posted a link to the Aussie site which I have spent what felt like a week of reading....it is very interesting though and full of info about mods the guys have done regarding overheating, aft rads, four core rads, fans etc etc.... Worth a look... I liked the bit about improving air flow under the bonnet..
                    .... Which was nice.

Binning the in rad set up was the ideal scenario due to thinking of heading into europe and the alps etc at some point with camping kit aboard.

So bigger is better dependant on space available and the thermo switch runs the fan on the back?

Im looking to pull out the air con system as it doesnt work at the moment and getting rid of the air con rad should free up some airflow. I need to have a look at some of the manufacturers cooler shapes out there to see where might be the best place to mount it - dont want it too obviously on show.

I understand that somewhere in the air flow is best but if using a fan on a thermo switch is it so drastically important (ie does it need to be right at the front?). I was thinking of mounting it below the bumper above the front cross member although this may not give enough clearance for the fan and not sure I fancy it being visible to the left or right of the bumper as I have binned the valance below the chrome bit.

How about having it tucked out of the way to protect it with a duct to collect air on the move from the front? Similar to some race car set ups - my skyline had an oil cooler that sat flat under the car with an air duct to it.

Maybe looking at ducting etc is just over complicating things

I looked at the cylinder cooler specs and they recken that I would need two 18 inch ones to get adequate coolig but this gives no option for a fan to assist.

I have seen this set up see attached - two thermo switches so that none one or both fans operate dependant on temperature - or would two coolers cause moe issue than not?

Going back to Bushwackers suggestion could the same principal be used on a wider less tall cooler with two fans fitted between the bumper and cross member? tucked away nice and neat behind the extended bash plate I want to make - providing that I place some holes in it to give adequate airflow.

I think I read that some of the Aussie guys mount theirs at the rear of the car where the spare wheel goes??

Plenty of space there and with an decent electric fan could be worth considering - lack of airflow may mean the fan is on more often though.
