But I can sell you a powerchip for £50 instead of £200 if you must have one...

The best ways to save money on your Surf (Assuming you use it):

          1. Keep it well serviced (Inc tyre pressures !)
          2. Learn to drive with a light foot
          3. Read the road ahead so you don't have to keep braking
          4. Whenever possible ensure that you're in lockup (Assuming it's an auto)
          5. Consider making the lockup mod (Depending on your use)

Life is too important to take seriously !

my brother is running a ford explorer 4.0 with a hydrogen fuel cell fitted no difference to power or torque but he says he's getting about 10mpg more now, so £700 for the kit he had fitted for 10mpg, and it has to go back yearly to have the cells re-filled

Yeah, but NASA use fuel cells you see. Gives the word a bit of cred.

If you said 'a jam jar full of water with a couple of electrodes' no-one would stump up money for it.

For those who dont know, a hydrogen fuel cell uses hydrogen to generate electricity. These eBay devices generate tiny amounts of hydrogen from inordinate amounts of electricity. As Henry says, totally different thing. A bit like comparing apples and washing machines.

Car mechanics magazine has just done a write on these systems

they fitted a professional £500 system to a diesel Omega and ran it for 12000 miles
The article is a bit vague and they wont give a like for like comparison. But to summarise they say there was a marginal improvement in fuel consumption and much cleaner emissions. They also say they were warned in advance that their engine would not give great results so other vehicles might respond better
