See Mr Clarkson does have some sense sometimes

He was road testing the BMW soft roader... Only take one off road accompanied with a tractor......

He wanted to hear a ga dunk from a diff lock being engaged not some namby pamby electronic wizardry to engage traction control.

All in All they are useless unless they are in Tescos car park

          Gentlefolk...

Whilst the large manufacturers cash in on this 4x4 fashion (anyone seen that repainted rover? ), isn't this an opportunity to point out our wonderful descision to buy a surf... And perhaps help Jeremy Clarkson/Top Gear out recovering his soft roaders... New season in the autumn...

          Just a thought.

They wont come near us because of the dreaded words
              GREY IMPORT

It would upset the uk maindealers and the BBC would lose access to the manufacturers.....

And what part of the X3 review was designed to keep BMW happy? I especially liked the bit where they said the only reason to buy one was if you woke up in the morning and thought you were an onion

That was a good one, one of Clarkson's better ones.

And what makes him think anyway that he could do a course like that on low profile road tyres. Wouldn't matter if he gave it a 4 inch lift, it still isn't going to grip that well no matter how much electronic trickery that it has on board.

Thought it was funny that the new Rangey couldn't get him out either as they really rave about it even though it is like a gentleman's club with wheels - not a patch on the original.

Put some All terrains on the Corvette though and with 400 lb/ft of torque it would probably pull out the tractor, rangerover and the BMW in one go. Bit limmited on wheel articulation but probably no less than the BMW.

                  Cheers

That seems to be the problem with all the new SUV's they all come with road tyres as the vast majority of them will never get muddy.

These type of cars are what Livingston is on about status symbols, not true 4x4's but because they are labelled as 4x4 we all suffer the same prejudices.

As Clarkson said "you need to wake up in the morning an think your an onion to want one of these" so who are they aimed at ??? Barristors wives ?, Doctors wives ?, numpty's with more money than sense ?

Will be interesting to see who actually drives them and where, and perhaps Mr Livingston has a point when it comes to cars such as these, if you can afford the £30000+ to buy one of theses non descript motor cars then surely you wont baulk at the extra £££ to tax and drive through city centres because obviously money don't matter.
