  • 3rd Gen Is Finally Here !!!

    Hi,

Just thought I'd show you my new toy! The 3ltr certainly does pull like hell compared to my old 2.4. One strange thing is that there seems to be loads more cabin space in the back with more leg room etc??? Did toyota re-design the floor space on the 3rd Gen ??? The load area seems the same but my load liner won't fit , the inner wheel arches seem longer. Has anyone else noticed this and know where I can get one to fit ???

    Cheers

    Andy.

Toyota diddn't so much re-design the floor, as they did the chassis, the floor, the body, pretty much everything really. I don't think there are any interchangable items in the body/chassis between 2nd & 3rd Gens. Many mechanical items are however identical. If I remember correctly the load space should be about 1" wider & 2" longer whilst rear passingers hve between 2" & 4" extra legroom too.

Cheers guys, I wonder how the 3rd Gens compare to the Lancruiser Colorado ? Iv'e been at the side of an Amazon at the Petrol station and they are !!!!!! huge! So there can't be many differences between the colorado and a 3rd Gen Surf or is there ?????

          Nice motor Andy!!
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do with our 3rd Gen.
You'll need to keep an eye on the speedo, or those pesky speed cameras will get you - 80mph seems like nothing at all!!
Have fun - Oh and when you find out about a load liner that is a tailored fit, perhaps you could let me know as I need one as well.
          Cheers

              Correct Marky !

I just spent today laid on my back underneath it with the dreaded Waxoil pump/spray set up I used two refill cans and blathered it onto everything that didn't move and got in the way, including myself and the dog !!

All I need is some rain so I can well and truly break her in and see what she's made of.

RoughTrax in Bristol do a tailored load liner for the 3rd gen. I think it's about £40. You will have to check it out on their website.

Strange how angles distort things, I was parked alongside a 2nd gen today and we both commented on the fact that there was a height/width difference the 2nd gen looked bigger and wider. I was inclined to agree until I read the above. We did have a 2nd gen for a while and my wife says it had more presence than this 3rd gen I have now. But I bow to the knowledge of the forum.

Thanks for that, I'll give rough trax a try. As for the size thing, I'm not sure ?? It definately has more room in side but seems a bit smaller on the outside, apart from when you look at it from the back where it seems to have more ground clearance????? any way I still can't reach the back section of the roof when cleaning, so it can't be that different It would be interesting to see a 2nd and 3rd Gen next to each other.

                      Cheers

                          Hello Andy,

The Land Cruiser Colorado aka Land Cruiser Prado LC95W share the same platform and engine with the N185 Surf (3rd gen). The only difference is the body.

Cheers and congratulations on your new surf!!
