  • Things you may or may not know about cars.

With very, very, few exceptions; the fuel filler, on vehicles with one (non central) exhaust outlet and a non central rear filler, is on the opposite side to the exhaust.

With dozens of exceptions; the nozzle on the fuel pump on the fuel gauge, is sometimes on the same side as the car's fuel filler (unless the fuel filler is central).

Without exception and looking forward from within the vehicle, the nearside is the left and the offside is the right.

    In case anyone wondered...

On one of my cars, the exhaust is not on the opposite side to the fuel filler and the fuel filler is not on the same side as the nozzle on the warning light.

Yes, and is it true that a vehicle must have a tank capacity to cover a certain amount of kms? 400 or 300 or something?

On a few of my left hookers the nearside is the right.

Nope, it's always the left, just as Port is on a ship.

Not the same side as the gauge, the same side as the filler nozzle on the wee picture of a fuel pump on the gauge.
