me personally i think yes bring it back, why should someone delibratley take a persons life to then have the tax payers paying for him to go to prison giving him 3/4 meals a day, qualifications to get a decent job when they get out prison, i dont think thats right at all.
If they give out the crime they can take the punishment but i wouldnt stop at child killers and cop killers make it so anybody that has murdered be delt with equaly.UBIQUE

I don't have much faith in people in general, therefore I don't think its ever a good idea to ask the public how to run the country, and I doubt e-petitions would ever be taken seriously.
Having said that, anyone who allows a dog to shit somewhere where its going to get all over my knobbly bike tyres should be drowned in dog shit.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Yep..Let's have it back for......
Murderers (specially mass murderers like that Norway sicko), and Kiddy Fiddlers (chop their JT and nadgers off, stuff it all in their mouths and off with their heads live on TV)!!
Rapists should themselves be subject to death rape by one of those big hairy buggers in gaol doing a long stretch. The one that hasn't seen a woman in a very long time. Mind the soap!!
That should get the prison population down a bitNow it's time to play!

And before you all start having a go, the most pedantic system we have is our legal system.
We either have the death penalty, or we don't. There cannot be vocational or demographic rules.Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

I am against the death penalty - but also against the idea of the public being able to decide the laws of society, even by vote.
This is pretty contentious and will no doubt raise the hackles of some, but have you looked at the type of people residing in society these days? Do you really want the fate of society decided practically randomly by people who only care about themselves? It's a pretty well established fact that when it comes to voting, protesting etc, people dont make decisions based on the good of society as a whole, just on what's best for themselves. Public sector pensions is the latest one.
I wonder whether laws should be made by those best qualified to do so. In other words, those who've studied law, ethics etc and have an IQ able to understand the implications of decisions they make. (Something similar to what we have now maybe)
An example. Would you prefer to be operated on by a brain surgeon who has studied surgery, and has qualifications that took time and effort to obtain - or would you prefer some guy who'd made a lot of noise and promises that he can fix your headaches, so people who know feck all about brain surgery voted for him to work on your head?
Same with the law, politics, running the country etc. In general, the people who are doing it have a track record, and often have qualifications. This is why we shouldn't allow Joe public to decide someone is paraded on telly before having their knob cut off on prime time TV.
What do you want? Women buried to their neck on football pitches at half time and stoned to death for 'maybe' having an illicit affair? Then move to the middle east, you'll be happier there.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I'd say an 'eye for an eye' would be best punishment
I agree with the, why keep someone in a cosy lifestyle if they have done wrong
I think the first things that should be looked at are the prisons themslves - they should horrible dank nasty places, not the bright comfortable places they are now.. I was watching a programme a few months back where iirc 7 out of 10 admitted they would recommit a crime as it was easier being inside than it was out on the streets fending for themselves..
this then starts going back to the whole bring back punishment in schools, ie cane etc, let coppers give kids a clip, bring back some level or respect into the youth of today, maybe even start national service.. young offenders hsould go into the army, not a centre full of more of them.

The only way the death penalty would be brought back is if it was used for cases that they absolutely 100% sure on, also I feel that a jury would have a huge amount of trouble convicting people if they knew it meant someone's life.
The only benefit I can see would be cutting costs, but what percentage of criminals would qualify for the death penalty? My guess would be not many, so is it worth it?

Although i sometimes think "that ba$tard should hang" when the inital anger at at the crime's cooled down and the "knee-jerk" reaction's been replaced with erm let's say sadness, i wouldn't like to see hanging brought back, there have been too many miscarages of justice when hanging was in force for me to aggree with it, i do however believe that a sentence should be ecactly what it is ie:- life should mean life, 10 years should mean 10 years, and if they play up they should have time added on not time off for good behaviour,
i would also do away with this "police bail" shoit, if they been arrested they should be locked up while inquiry's are on - going,
iwould also allow (or make it complusory) for all previous crimes of an individal to be related to a jury, at their current trial,
i would scrap the 48 hour (or whatever it is) rule that prevents police holding a suspect longer than that while invesigations are on going,
i would also dish out much stronger sentences for the type of crimes you see on programmes like cops with camera's, look at what the offenders get at the end of the programme, and what the cops have had to go through to "nab" em,
i would also give the justice system the biggest shake up it's ever had,Too young to die and too old to give a toss

My opinion is that if the government really has to debate these petitions I hope the "Keep Formula 1 Free To Air in the UK" petition currently 4653 votes does not get overtaken by the "Legalise cannabis" currently on 1505 votes.
I think it would be better to have the country moaning about how Hamilton was robbed because of a wrong tyre choice than a load of stoners semi comatose deciding the laws.
I would prefer that the laws of this country ie England where decided by an english parliament not the general rabble .
My opinion, feel free to pull it apart,agree.Eat.Sleep.Surf.Repeat.

Nice to see a few reasoned opinions rather than emotion driven claptrap.
I particularly agree with keeping F1 free in the UK, and also don't want stoners deciding on who I go to for brain surgery!
Wonder where Henry is? I'm sure he'd have an insiders take on the subject.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

Whether or not they bring back the death penalty is immaterial, but life imprisonment should mean just that and not release after 5 or 10 years.
IMHO prison should remove all your freedom and also your human rights as you have infringed on the human rights of others. This means no TV, Gyms etc. Make prison life harsh with chain gangs to repair our roads and to do other community service and a felon will think twice about committing a crime!
