  • I'm starting to think about throwing the towel in!

there is the mysterious clunking from the front, the rattle over bumps, the knocking etc etc

then the squealing starts - read up and worked out its the brake pad wear metal tab thingymebobs

so i order up a set of pads from roughtrax, they arrive

tonight plan - simple, swap pads and get the squealing gone..

    Simple job??
    Nope!!

both calipers, both sides are seized

no wonder I've had rubbish brakes for the last while

the outer pistons all ok, push bak in fine, but the inner (closest to engine) are fully seized - not 1, not 2, but all 4 pistons

1 I've managed to free up a little by following some advice here of loads of WD40 sprayed under the seal and get someone to pump the pedal, it just about extended, but I cannot get it back in..

so whats next - call it a day with the truck and break it

splash out on getting 2 new calipers for something else just to go wrong??

is it really worth buying second hand calipers??

anyway - thats that rant done!!

Try putting a G clamp on the inner pistons to see if you can press them back in by winding the clamp closed. If that still doesn't work, put a request on here for anyone breaking a similar model who could sell you a pair of calipers (e.g. Stormforce, Bushwacker, etc).

g cramp etc wont shift them, calipers off now and it looks a right mess - split it in 2 as well, just to make it even easier to try and move them, they wont budge, had the G cramps and vice ont hem, vice moves a teenie bit but pointless as then they'll still need sorting.

So thinking they only good for junking now!!

Getting rather fed up of the darned thing to say the least!!

Shame i still love it tho and it does look awesome.

wasnt blaming the tuck mate - just saying I'm hacked off with it totally now.. but still love it

if dunking it in water and mud is to blame why have only the outer ones been affected then, not all of them?

LOL, well obviously the split ones will definatly had water in them, the others are just random which ones got wet or not.

Squirt WD40 inside the seals, then with an old pad against the disc try and smack it open with a chiesel, sometimes you can work it in and out (with brake pedal) enough to get you rolling for a while. I often have to do this to get a truck through an MOT, then we change the calipers in a couple of weeks when money has been saved up.

Its quite common, I see it alot.

Lol i just bent both front discs trying to force the calipers back. Two chisels with a third hammered in between them. Got them back far enough to get new pads in, but the brake judder is something else from the warped discs now.
Two new discs arrived just waiting on new calipers, nothing new on a 15 year old motor.

Its only split since I've taken it off and split it so i could try the G cramps on it, the seals were probably knackered 2

is it common then just the 4 inner go and outer ones stay fine

I guess the outer ones are a little more out the way than the inner ones. Not really noticed much difference, although the passenger side is usually the troublesome side.
