Arm rest

I want to put some mobile radio equipment in my hilux.

Unfortunately it is slightly bigger than 1din, would fit nicely in the arm rest between the front seats. What is under the plastic shelf, seems like alot of room under there.... could just chop a rectangle out of the shelf, feed my cables under the carpet, slot the equipment in and away you go......added advantage of being able to put the lid down and cover it up
im thinking "why would toyota waste this space?"

I think you'll find the pipework for the rear heater comes up under the centre armrest.

As Mike said, if you have the rear heater then there is no room whatsoever, there is a big fan unit and the rear heater matrix.

If however you don't have the rear heater, there is tons of space there, in fact there was an optional arm rest unit that was in two bits, you lifted up the arm rest, then you lift up the bit below it, gave lots of storage room.
