  • Garage advice

Hi folks, I'd like to ask for a little bit of advice please about a recent 'to do' with the garage I normally use.

I went to my usual garage and asked for a quote for the truck to be undersealed. I was quoted £190 for the job, the truck would have to be left with them for two days. The first day would be spent cleaning the underside and chassis and the second day would be spent undersealing. The garage specified they would be spraying the underbody, inside the doors, inside the chassis box sections and wheel arches.

So I left it with them on Friday and picked it up on Saturday. They said it had gone well, I paid and left.

My UJ on my propshaft died a couple of days later and I went underneath it to have a look and whilst under there with the inspection lamp I noticed that a fair amount of the underneath had been missed with the underseal. The tops and insides of the chassis hadn't been done, neither had the doors and only the plastic liners of the wheel arches had been sprayed not removed and the arch sprayed. Further to this there was a fair amount of dirt and dried mud on the chassis.

So I rang the garage back to ask if I could bring it in again as alot of it had been missed and they agreed so I took it back in last Monday showed them what I wanted doing and they agreed to ring me when it had been completed.
On Friday I called in as I'd not heard anything from them and they hadn't done it yet, they promised to clean it that day and have it done for Saturday.
As I was working Saturday I picked it up today.

The covering was better on the underside and they'd done the wheel arches, however they still hadn't done the inside of the chassis. They may have done the doors, I'm unsure, but there is still mud on the chassis. When I asked about the mud he admitted it had still not been cleaned off as they were too busy to do it.
Here's a piccie of some of it:

Sorry for the long post, but what do you guys think I should do next? I'm not keen on taking it back to that garage as I don't think they're capable of doing it properly but they won't return any of my money

My initial reaction is to send a polite letter demanding money back or you'll take them to court.

Next step, take them to small claims court if they don't give you your money back.

Depends how much you want to annoy them.

I certainly wouldn't go back to them for anything else.

Perhaps your local trading standards might be able to help/offer advice? The CAB may well be worth a try too.
