Just watching top gear and the bit they did on the Nissan Leaf, I can see it selling for the school run on the daily commute or even company cars were the distance is known.
But when charging at home if you dont have a drive you really need to park it directly outside your house. This will be fun in congested streets.
Unless the council starts issuing dedicated parking rights for electric car owners

Also hope like hell that the next door neighbour does not plug in his electric fan heater. If these are so environmentally friendly why do they need to be charged from a polluting power station that is damaging the atmosphere according to all the pundits?

You could install your own windmill generator, or solar panels....of course these use electrickery from the polluting power stations to produce them...as does the vehicle itself....and the batteries, which last somewhere between 5 and 10 years....When you add it all up, just how environmentally friendly are these things?

IMHO they are not environmentally friendly at all!

The '5 to 10 year' battery life is a bit misleading as they will lose significant capacity well before then, so will require more frequent charging.

Electric cars powered by conventional stored charge batteries are a dead end IMO. Far better the Hydrogen Fuel Cell. However, I fear you will not see mass take up on that until fossil fuel has all but gone. Even then, some ways of making hydrogen are very power hungry!
