  • Autotrader weird enquiries

    Hi All

Am selling my Surf on Autotrader (and on here) Had some really weird calls, people willing to come all the way from London to Stratford upon Avon to see it! Would you trust this and has anyone had experience selling through Autotrader?

    Cheers,

    Amanda

Just out of curiosity how much ? If it is what someone is after and the money is right then why not.
If you were concerned about being scammed? etc It might be worth arranging to meet in a neutral public place.

My main experience through Autotrader has been getting hassled by canvassers or traders who turn up with case and desperately try to talk you into selling to them on the cheap.

Alternatively, it could just be someone looking for a decent, cheap surf who's seen yours (the blue, realistically priced 2.4 with the new head??)

Yep that's the one, you interested??

Its now on for £775.00 as we really need to sell him, we are moving house and need him off the driveway.

Oh well, got two guys coming tomorrow to look so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the advice! I'm such a suspicious person!

Better to be suspicious now than regretful later !!!

Good luck on the sale I wouldn't drop the asking price too much!

Not for at least nine months. Good luck and just make sure you see their licence and insurance before letting them test drive it. I normally drive to a petrol station, take the keys out of the ignition, swap seats with them, then hand them the key. You don't get better CCTV than at petrol stations.....

Don't part with it except for hard cash or cleared funds. If they offer you more in a cheque because they 'really want it' they're scamming you. If you're not used to selling cars, just post some of the messages up here and we fine band of cynics will let you know what we think.

I bought my Surf from Autotrader. Flew from Belfast to Newcastle to look at it and then home onto the ferry.

When I was selling my Honda Accord a guy phoned me from Birmingham offering a bit more above the advertised price if I would deliver it over. I was up for it until he said I could have free choice at his whore house as a way of saying thank you. I declined on the grounds that I thought I might find myself in a dodgy situation somewhere along the line.

I drove from cheltenham to guildford to see my surf the first time then by train to pick it up, mine came through autotrader, I see no problem with london to stratford to have a look.

I drove up to Hull from Stoke-on-Trent to spend £675 on a 2.4 LN130 a few years ago...

Some interesting deals going on there!! )

Thanks for the advice guys, they offered £500 for it, uh don't think so, and they wanted to take it back to Africa with them??

There aren't too many Surfs out there for sale, so I'm not surprised people will come a long way, so far got Cornwall, Leeds and another from London to come see it, so wish me luck!

                      Cheers

The people to worry about aren't the ones that try and get it for a steal. It is the ones that offer you well over the asking price that are usually the scammers - the old advance fee fraud (well documented all over the net - Google it). Don't assume a bank draft is as good as cash these days either - they are regularly forged, and you won't find out until after the amount appears in your account.

A chap travelled from Lithuania to buy my ropey Alfa 156 for £600 last year. Paid cash and drove it straight back there. Didn't hear any more so I assume it made it!

Insist on cash payment and you will be OK.
