Thanks to the guide on the Aussie tech site I managed to get the old knackered alternator off the Surf today (in between the rather heavy rain showers!).
Haven't put the spangly sparkly new alternator on yet - got a few issues there!
It looks almost identical and should fit once I've got the pulley wheel off - therein lies my problem. See pic:
At the centre is a 10mm head, the bigger nut around the outside of the central shaft is 22mm (I think).
The problem is that I can't seem to undo the nut to enable me to remove the pulley wheel cos whatever I stick on the 10mm head just seems to slip off. Once this wheel is off the vacuum pump will fit on without a problem and I can put the Surf back together again.
Has anyone got any ideas/suggestions that might help me to get this damn thing off?
I've tried gripping the wheel in a vice and it just slips. I suspect I'll either need to nip out and buy myself a new tool to do it or maybe pop round to my dad's house and raid his garage if I can think of anything that might work...
Thanks in advance for any help, folks.
