We were allways too busy to chat to customers, so i never got to ask if any of them were fellow forumers! Just curious, tis all
Hi mate, I probably filled up with fuel there once since I owned the surf, but used to go to the drive through mcdonalds a few weekends a month.. Can't get enough of those sausage and egg mcmuffins lol!

Do you take your 4runner offroading?

    Cheers,

Passat TDI, these things are very frugal for a large car. I am getting 50mpg+ on the work run and around 55/57mpg on an M way run at 75mph.
Cruise Control seems to help keep the mpg up.

About 30 years ago, almost to the day, my cousin was out riding with 2 inexperienced riders and her fiance. Just outside Dunfermline, on the road to Crossgates, she was rounding a left hander (according to witnesses she was about 1/3 of the lane width into her side of the road), a car driver coming the other way, cut the corner and hit Carol. She managed to lift the bike a bit, but the car still hit her.

She landed on the verge on the outside of the bend, her bike landed in a field beyond her. She died at the scene.

Just because a biker is in a ditch or on the outside of a bend, doesn't mean they did something wrong or bailed.

The driver of the car was never traced.

Nope, absolutely true. But because there was no car with a big hole in the front of it at the scene doesn't mean that it was someone else's fault who 'ran' off either. The bend in question is one that tightens as you get into it, and I've always thought it was a bit dodgy.

When I lived in Harlech, it was almost a weekly event the chopper would go out to the Bala / Trawsfynedd road to clear up after the weekend warriors were out using that road as their personal racetrack (back in the days you could listen in on the helimed chopper).

I have no particular feelings for or against bikers, but my experience of that road (which I drove frequently) was that there was an awful lot of risk takers using it on summer afternoons, and a commensurate amount of incidents reported in the local rag, the Cambrian News during the summer months.

I find this info helps when doing the monthly accounts.

What has it got to do with being rich? Everyone knows that you can reduce mpg by driving more economically, and how. So if you want to reduce costs drive more economically. Or buy an economical car, which a Surf plainly isn't.

I think Albannach's perfectly sensible point is that you don't make a pig fat by weighing it. Constantly measuring your mpg doesn't increase it.

I seem to remember getting shot down when I suggested in a similar thread some time back to someone moaning about Surf mpg that he buy a more economical car.

It's just known as 'living within your means' - which is another alien concept to some these days.

The reason for high fuel prices is academic. It will never come down significantly. If you cant afford it, and losing the truck / driving less IF YOU CAN*, you'd be a dumb ass to ruin the rest of your quality of life over it.

*note the 'if you can' before you start telling me 'you need it because...'

I've just rented a little Peugeot 207 diesel.
I've done 300 odd miles in it and the mpg computer says 61.3MPG.
That's at 80ish on Mways and a bit of town/city driving.

Bl00dy hell, is all I can say.

Thats why I said 'need' and not 'want'. If you just want it because you like it (and who doesn't?) then suck it up and stop whining about it! Lots of hobbies suck in all your spare cash.

I know that, but I for one have to work out how much fuel I need to allow for roughly a month, and cant just fill it up as much as i want to. I need to think about stuff like that. If i go over budget for fuel, i cant do other stuff like go out to the pub, or get a take away etc.
