Thanks for your reply, please could you get someone who really works for Toyota to reply to me as you obviously don't. The 4Runner was sold in the UK between 93 & 96, I would assume if you worked for Toyota you would have known this. Maybe at least before sending me a generic I can't help answer you would have done some research so as not to make yourself look rather silly, can I quote you on your remarkable reply to the next person I speak to at Toyota or the press.

        Or try here

        Toyota (GB) PLC
        Great Burgh
        Burgh Heath
        Epsom
        Surrey
        KT18 5UX

        01737 363633

I had some good response here a few years back on recalls.

I have not been on the site recently, so I am a bit late on this. My brother works for Toyota at Burgh Heath, he is a finance director or something reasonably high up. (I went to Silverstone as a guest of team Toyota in the F1 the other year, with gold paddock club tickets (about £3500 if you were to pay for the ticket.) I can confirm that Toyota UK do not hold any specs on the Surf as I have asked him for details before.

I only found out about the lez yesterday, however if we were to put together a constructive letter / email with photos and comparisons to other Toyota's I am sure he could get it in front of a department head.

Long live the Greater London, East London, Greater London, Middlesex and Surrey Surf! Ross

PS. If we let this classification stick in these counties already affected when they do roll it out to the rest of the country the rest of the counties Surfs will be doomed too!!!! However you can still drive a 4.2ltr Diesel Landcruiser???????? Or the 3.0ltr Landcruiser with exactly the same engine??????

Good plan, obviously Toyota UK have made a mistake or not been overly bothered in classifing import Surfs, the info needs to get to someone important enough to be able to change policy.

Seems people lower down the food chain are just quoting the official line, and are in no position to change it.

It's never been a problem till now, but surely they can see that something needs to be changed now the LEZ has appeared. Assuming they are as bothered about aftercare of their vehicles as they make out.

My friend has just got his letter from VW stating his T25 isn't a Light Goods, but a camper, so he's happy about that, but his less happy that his 98' T4 Transporter van he uses as a plumber is now worthless to him living in Uxbridge.

I simply advised the DVLA that it was registered incorrectly and should be an estate. i think you are able to do thsi by sending in the V5 with the alteration. They then sent back the V5 with it marked as an estate.

the other option as a lot of others are doing is to start the attack of the whole LEZ system, there is aplanned protest being organised for Saturday 6th august..

details on facebook (cant link as facebook blocked from work) plus other forums too

a few big names are getting on board.. I'm not effected as the surf is classed as an estate, but the big worry is how long after the London zone does it roll out over the country and screws everyone up..

it coudl be looked at, scrappage scheme didnt get the old vehicle soff the road, so lets force them now...

who knows, they may even do another phase that effects all cars....

I will try this, this sounds the easy option.

According to their own rules any notification of a body style change requires an inspection, and a notification of this mistake on the V5 requires back up from the manufacturer or other approved source.

If it worked, you got VERY lucky, they are pretty strict on this or a lot of people would be changing things on the V5 on commercial vehicles to avoid high duties or alter the MOT requirements for example.

I did it in about 2006 when the tax disc was due for renewal. I also included a short letter explaining that it was an import and similar to the 4 runner.

my next plan involves telling them mines had a body change and needs inspecting, we'll see if they'll take their own inspectors word that its an estate.
