Or indeed the "Israel" problem, depending on your point of view.

And I agree with Cal. I presume they captured him and are currently getting the bath ready for a head-first dunking.

Not so convinced that he has been captured. The 10 members of his family that got captured that are saying "the Americans killed my dad/husband/etc" is one thing that might be difficult to co-ordinate and/or maintain...

Seems to be fairly well established information issued by the Pakistani & US authorities. According to statements issued today by the US the original plan was to take his family away for interrogation. Things went awry when one of the helicopters broke down/got shot at with an RPG (depending on which source you believe). When the US abandoned the helicopter and destroyed it they decided to leave the remaining 10 members of the Bin-Laden family to fend for themselves and they were rapidly picked up by the Pakistani local authorities.

The US are miffed at this because, according to Pakistani law, they will be returned to their countries of origin whereas the the US wanted to do one of their special renditions so they could interrogate them for themselves.

Pakistan are miffed at this cos it leaves them to clean up the mess the US made of the operation. (Although the US probably won't admit they screwed things up a wee bit).

I suspect that the Bin-Laden family are miffed at this cos, lets face it, a 13 year old girl (just as one example) is going to be pretty annoyed at seeing her unarmed father killed while he was hiding behind one of his wives...!

I suppose this operation at least went slightly better than their attempt at rescuing Linda Norgrove. Then again, they didn't really want to complicate things by taking Osama Bin-Laden alive...

There is a sure fire way to stop it all. The abolition of the state of Israel and subsequent resettlement of the displaced Palestinians.

For what its worth, my opinion is that Bin Laden had to be caught and terminated. A display of the will and ability of the western world to deal with those who perpetrate mass murder and attempt to justify it with a left field interpretation of an established and peaceful religion, was something that had to be done.

No doubt we will see attempts at retribution, but I think we'd have seen those anyway. US foreign policy is no worse than our own and despite what many are inclined to believe, they wrote the book for modern counter-insurgency. They are far from being stupid or misguided.

"Native Americans are objecting to the U.S. military's use of the code name "Geronimo" for Osama bin Laden during the raid that killed the al-Qaida leader. "

No, not at all. I realise it may be an unpopular view with a certain section of society but it's an honestly held opinion without prejudice. I have nothing against any religion or the followers of any religion.

Wow. I'd best leave that then before Godwin's Law is invoked.

Even when 'the job' isn't defined.

The yanks shoot stuff. Thats what they do. Half the time its the wrong stuff. Or the right stuff for the wrong reason.

The more I see, the more I am convinced they have a view of their position in the world that isn't shared by the majority of the rest of the world. As long as they continue to hold this belief, they will continue to rub countries up the wrong way.

well, the fact that he has been killed has settled the matter of a terrorist lead organiser and instigator but 10 years for one guy......

                                in this time they have....

entered Afhganistan and bombed it, kiling many civilians

entered Iraq and bombed it, killing many civilians

bombed places on and over the Pakistan border and killed civilians

All these things have been done under a guise of 'fighting terrorism', but when the civilian deathtoll is so high is it really worth it??

some may say yes, due to the bombings in New York an London, but that just suggests that were happy that other civilians are killed so long as we get revenge on a guy or particular group for our civilians that were killed.

im not glad that he is dead, nor am I upset, I just think that the actions that have been undertaken and done more to create hate in the middleeast than Bin Laden could ever do.
