  • Seeing as we are on a cooling theme.....

Towed for the first time this weekend with the new digital temp gauge & was pretty pleased with how the surf handled the strain of the caravan.

Not really much difference in temperature, sits between 77 & 87 degrees & only went up on a steepish hill "90" but dropped fairly quick once on the level.

I'll still probably fit a cooler to be on the safe side
but all in all was very pleased, was expecting it to be up & down like a yo yo but it sat at around 83 degrees nearly all the way.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I get a totally different reading in my 2nd gen.

90-94 normal conditions and over 100 under load.

New pump and stat being fitted soon so I'll see if it makes a difference.

From what people have been saying I think 2nd gens run hotter than 3rd gens anyway, I could be wrong.

        Tony N, Tony N,
can you shed some light on this subject please.

The engine bay is 3" longer on the 3rd gen plus a wider radiator, every little helps.

Suppose it does, my mate has a 2nd gen 3LT & it does look a little cramped in the engine bay.

You should see how cramped a 2nd gen's engine bay looks with a Lexus V8 in there!

But you should also see, how they run at 85 degrees...at all times. Hills, mountains, right foot related hooliganism...stops at 85 and never gets hotter.
                    Non intercooled nothing.

So it was a good idea to use the 3.0 diesel rad then.

Are you stocking up on prop U/Js Graham? Sounds like you're gonna be needing some.

Oh yes...and since the winch bumper went on, it's got even more airflow around it.

I've seen the one Ross has, looks the dogs & the sound is out of this world.

Never got to go in it though.

My 2nd gen gets to 95 under motorway load in hot weather. If I keep trying to accelerate it goes just over 95c but as soon as it does this the original temperature guage begins to move up off the normal position. I read this shouldnt happen until well over 100 so it seems my original guage is too sensitive / faulty? My guage would be in the red if it were over 100c judging by how quick it moves after 95c.
                            Oh Nana, what's my name?

Have you got some pics of the new winch bumper Gra? Did I miss them? Or is it just the usual photos/Gra = blood/stone scenario...
