I just discovered that if you put a round teabag in a Philips Senseo coffee maker, it does a passable cuppa, though you get a 1/2" of head on it

I didn't say it does a GOOD cuppa. Just a passable one. I had to brew a proper one so I could do a proper comparison, and suffice to say, the Senseo brewed one went down the sink.
