  • back bumper repairs

Hi guys has any body got ####ed off with the rusty back bumpers and managed to repair them successfully
What do i need to use as a primer on the Chrome would anyone do ?
Or do i need an etched primer. Ive got the Know to do a good job but never painted on chrome before. Any hazards in sanding it up

    Cheers Fellas

You need to get the chrome off in my opinion which could be a hard slog. Might be easier to get a tatty painted bumper and refresh that one.

don't know if it will be the same but when I did my grill chrome surround I rubbed it down with a scratch pad to give a key, used a couple of coats of Halford's etch primer and then 3 coats of gloss black.

Did this a couple of years ago and paint still well stuck and no chips

        hope this helps

Thanks Hawaii, Was thinking of grinding all the rust pockets out and sticking some mesh on from behind with polyurethane adhesive then filling the front with epoxy filler. not forgetting to prime the raw metal with an oxide primer.

Then the etched primer and following coats, wet sand and polish

Thinking it will take me 4 hrs each panel in all. And the thing would only get wrecked if they were new anyway.

Just touched a walnut tree stump and got a big dent in the front.
