  • Veggie oil

Just been to Tesco to buy some more veggie oil,£2.95 for 3litres about 5 days ago,its on the shelf now at £3.95,and they couldnt give me a good explanation as to why the increase(nearly 33%) when I queried it.
    So off to Bookers,
£21.09 for 20 litre bottle, plus the dreaded vat ,anyone found it any cheaper? ,Alan

    Alan.

It's called a 'popularity increase' the more popular the the product, the more they'll try and get away with increasing the price of it.

I know we are paying £1.33 at the pump locally but the truck uses more when on Vegi oil so i have stopped paying anything over £1.20 a ltr.
          Always room for more power!!!!

Just been on to tesco customer service, they at first said it should be £2.98 for 3 litre but then rang me back to say that it had actually gone up to £3.95 so its a bit confusing at the mo.Tesco then said a supervisor from Customer service would ring me in a little while to confirm price,I dont mind too much if something goes up in price but they take it too far.

Just had that call and they confirm it should be £3.95,said it was probably on offer last week.

Just been told its £2.95 at Asda for 3 litres,oh what joy,off to the shops i go,Alan

Darren,re your thread, any idea what you were getting on normal diesel and what on veggie mix,I havent completed a brim to brim as yet,and like you say unless its reasonable its may not be worth it,Alan

Might be wrong but when you add vat on it's £25.03 and 20 ltr of diesel would be £27.80 so you save £2.77 per 20ltrs

Asda is doing 15 ltr for £16.28 15 lrt diesel £20.85 so save £4.57 per 15ltr

Based on diesel @ £1.39 ltr

I ran on 45 ltrs veg to 15 ltr diesel and noticed little difference in consumption just a saving back then of £20 a top up so every forth tank free in comparison to using pure diesel!!

Now the saving is likely to be £13.71 at current prices

When doing your calculations you need to take into account that:

Veg oil is if I remeber correctly 10% less calorific than diesel so you probably get roughly 10% less MPG.

If you add anything like petrol/ REDEX/ ATF etc. to your veg you need to cost for that.

If you change your fuel filter more often on veg you need to cost for that too.

Nada unless you are willing to not use it for that day rather than just add more to the tank the next.

Boycott for a month with no travel and they might notice. Fairly unlikely to happen though...

Wow is it that bad .....mine must run like a dog then as I have never noticed that big a drop in mpg. I ran veg for 2 yrs and never added anything or changed the filter....I only stopped when veg oil jumped up to make it not worth the effort but now the price gap is looking worth it.

I`ve noticed no prob`s at all i`d even say it runs better, some additive that makes the smell a bit sweeter would be nice, i`m thinking maple syrup maybe

Funny that when I first started using it I kept thinking someone had shoved a doughnut in my engine bay

Yep. £20.50 inc VAT for 20 litres at the local Chinese Supermarket Wholesalers.

I've tried asking around for WVO but apparently I've got no hope around here (north Staffs) cos I've been told that one of the biggest WVO recycling companies in the UK is based relatively locally (no idea what their name is or whatever - just going by what I've been told by other locals on the Veggie Oil users forum)

I've not noticed a significant difference in mpg between 100% diesel and 100% SVO that I've run on in the summer months.
