Ooh, looks good! How much work is actually involved fitting the lump into a surf? I am very tempted.

Yeah, someone should start a thread on how to do the engine transplant.

He dosen't say much about the engine in it! and as it only the engine you'll want i'd ask some questions, see it in the flesh and drive it before shelling out, like the dash in em!
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

To be honest Ian, It's pretty difficult to hurt these engines unless they've done an interstellar milage without any servicing. There's a rev limiter built into the ECU which stops you revving it over 6000 rpm. Everything is sensor controlled, any malfunction of any of the sensors and the ECU immediately switches to 'limp' mode.
Even the fuel pump has it's own computer to limit the fuel supply if the engine sensors aren't behaving themselves.
The cylinderheads are non-interference, meaning that should the timing belt snap (and no-one has ever heard of it happening in a Lexus) the pistons won't contact the valves.

Quite a few tuners ditch the standard ECU in favour for a programmable type to get more power out of the engine for turbo or supercharging.

im really thinking about going for a mtec v4 (megasquirt with some changes) as i can get them cheap, ive heard that you can get a ''crown'' ecu to control the gearbox ? know anything about that.

another thing ive been told is that the gearbox control is actually very simple in that you just need to put a positive to 4 different wires in different sequences to change gear, if thats the case then it should not be to difficult to built a quite simple programable ecu for the box.
