Back then, we called it 'Hardcore'. c
There was some great music then, and some true pioneers. My point was just that House is not where the good stuff was happening.

Nirvana - Negative Creep
Napalm Death - You Suffer
Bomb Disneyland - Suicide 999
Soundgarden - Sub Pop Rock City
Mudhoney - Touch Me I'm Sick
Sonic Youth - Teenage Riot
Marillion - Sugar Mice
Gary Moore - Empty Rooms
Peral Jam - Jeremy
Alice In Chains - Man In The Box
Hawkwind - Neon Skyline
Blue Oyster Cult - The Siege and Investiture at Baron von Frankenstein's Castle in Weissera
I did get into ravey stuff a wee bit later (LFO, Orb, etc) cos Hawkwind went a bit electronic and it opened my mind to other stuff a little.

Ok, Tony, just for you, some of the hilghlights of that era - not that nasty stuff you've been listening to.
First, Omni Trio (actually one bloke), who (IMHO) basically invented that drum and bass you youngsters listen to these days. This is probably his best known tune, which is fairly straightforward hardcore with some funny stuff on the offbeat, which was kind of the genesis of drum and bass.

This is the next step (you have to let it play a bit)

Pretty obvious where all that exciting music the kids like came from.
Next, Orbital, who are still going strong today. This was their first well-known release. One of them had to take a day of work at Wimpy to appear on Top of the Pops.

By 93, they were producing what is still probably the best electronic music that Britain has ever had

Now, you probably know Primal Scream and know about Screamadelica, which is kind of legendary.

Most of the music on that album was from one of the great producers of the time, Andrew Weatherall. Here's some more of his work:

Another lot still going are Coldcut. They were started off doing the music for (amongst others), Yazz, and this 80s genius.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGPhU...eature=related
and by the mid 90s, were producing classics like this

Anyway, I'm getting bored of this now but for dance music look at people like Mickey Finn, Aphrodite, Peshay, Hype, Randall, Andy C, Kenny Ken etc etc, most of whom are still going. As said above, the more mainstream housy stuff was from the Ibiza lot - Digweed, Danny Rampling etc.
For more 'proper' music, the Stone Roses is the obvious must-have album of that era.

Rustinho just reminded me (somehow) about Ozric Tentacles. They were amazing when you were off your face

"Last rhythm" brings back memories of wednesday nights at the Warehouse in Leeds. Garys were £15 each and one did you the night!!!!!!
one of my favorites from that era.....

wait till 1.45 when it kicks off
Also remember a lot of this era's best tracks being on Guerilla Records.
Most of the early hardcore i've got is on dodgy mix cassettes, and I don't even own a tape player anymore!!

Thanks Sanch! Majority I knew of already but some new tracks I had not heard in there. MARS is a great track.
Reminded me of another track:

I used to be really into the hardcore side of that. I liked Jungle a lot as well although there is a point where it began forming into DnB and I'm not too keen on that. Although liquid DnB is pretty good.
My favorite Hardcore artist is Nookie. Here are some of his tracks

Also went under the name Cloud 9:

Another great track - Rachel Wallace,

And as was mentioned, The Prodigy (Your Love),
