It's the direct type system for bashing the back of the drill bit.

                            Shiny Drill for Scots?

Don't know if its "one of them rumours" but I heard the same about DeWalt. Think of them as premium DIY, not premium professional.

Every Makita tool I've worked with has been faultless, and VERY dependable.

Gonna upgrade my kit when I can afford it!

I live in an old terrace house (1870s) and the walls are a ###### nightmare! Lime plaster over ancient bricks with crumbly mortar, I sometimes wonder how the ###### thing stays up (the house that is).

I've learnt to start with a bit 2mm smaller than needed and with the hammer setting off, otherwise I get exactly the same craters forming.
