Bought a 42" Lg plasma about 5 yrs ago and cost about £1100, also took out the 'whatever happens' insurance. Last September it started getting the red / green pixels all over it so they collected it and 28 days later said it was beyond economical repair, they gave me a code to go to Currys and get a new one to the value of todays market, off I went thinking I'd only get about £400, how wrong was I, £900 they told me and it can be a number of things to that value. As it was the last one off the wall and they had lost the remote I came out with a Sharp Aquos 46" led for less than half the price and a 26" lg lcd.

Me and my mate did a lot of reading up on TVs whether to go for plasma or LCD or LED etc.. The main cost factors were size and weight. How thick they were, how much they weighed and the viewing size. Another thing is the actual resolution they can display and how it is displayed. 42" TVs might be HD but they may not be 1080p etc.
He eventually settled on a Panasonic 1080p Plasma 52" for around £650. I've still yet to decide and get one, I'm trying to hold off for 3D as I'd like to make 3D videos.
In my case, the two big factors for me were resolution and the refresh rate of the pixels. Plasma doesn't have this refresh rate problem but cheap LCD TVs can cause picture blur because the pixels are fractions of a second too slow to accurately display a moving picture. For example action films and racing (and computer games).
I currently have a small (by TV standards) Samsung LCD PC screen with a 1080p resolution and a 2ms refresh rate. It's a little on the small side but does everything I need for the moment.
Oh and the Plasma screens have no trouble in keeping a medium sized room warm! A/C may be needed in the summer!Oh Nana, what's my name?
