  • intercooler vs turbo

is there a difference in power output between these two different types?

also can someone explain the generation difference,

    like gen1 1985-1990, gen2 -1990 etc onward?

    the gen 1 has a smaller turbodiesel engine : 2.4L (2L-TE engine)
the gen 2 has the 1KZ-TE 3.0L turbo diesel but no intercooler (130 hp/3600 rpm & 29.5kg-m/2000 rpm)
the gen 3 also has the 1KZ-TE engine but an optional intercooler was made available. (145 hp/3600 rpm & 34 kg-m/2000 rpm).

Sorry, I don't have the numbers for the 1st gen. but the hp should be around 100 hp.

of the 3, the 3rd gen has the biggest body and the more handsome one, especially if you got a lift and big tires!!

the 1st gen is the smallest.

    HTH.

Basically an intercooler should give more power, economy and torque. ONly the 3rd gen onwards have them on the 3 litre engine. However people have fitted them to the 2.4 successfully.

      Cheers

The 2nd Gen had the 2.4 until mid '93, when it was replaced by the 3.0

and the intercooler still has a turbo... just has an extra "radiator" between the turbo and the inlet manifold to cool the induction charge
