  • Respray

I have decided that the paint work on my truck is now past the point of restoring without a full respray. So i'm going to pick a colour and get on with it. however i'm looking to replace most of the window rubbers as they now look like they have liver spots all round. does anyone know of anywhere that sells them? Also i'm looking to get the glass tinted too. so does anyone know of anywhere relatively local to mid wales that could do that. preferrably chemically. not really looking for tinting strips. Plus any advice on spraying to make the job easier would be appreciated. cheers

I know lots about mechanics and to be fair what I dont know i'll ask or find a how to. but not so good at bodywork so a lad who sprays rally cars and has all the gear is going to teach me. may aswell use my truck to learn on. hes going to teach me all the filling and preperation. then mixing and spraying. i should pick something up hopefully. as once the body id done im pulling her off the road for a month to stip all the underside down replacing all the brake lines and redoing the drivetrain whick has become slack. the im going to spray the underside to protect it and look good.

That the idea. I like to learn things that i could use later on. i have two other trucks so anything i learn will be used on them too. these older surfs are starting to get few and far between and rapidly becoming collectors items. plus they dont make them like these anymore.

I've rattle canned a few cars in the past and not done a bad job (only if you liek matt paint tho)

often thought about trying it properly, fair play to you for doing that

only thing worth thinking about, do the underneath and mechanical stuff first, then you wont be worrying about damaging fresh paint up top and you can be a little more brutal/laidback with removing and renewing the underside stuff

not a bad idea. i'll post some before and after pics. i'm trying to take pictures of whatever i do to the truck in order to make and keep a record so i can come back to it whenever it needs repairing again. like a sort of home made haynes manual. it'll have to be sprayed first as im running out of time with the space we have and money. thats the only reason im doing the clean stuff first. im rather looking froward to doing it.

anyone got any ideas on what colour i should do it in. I want to keep it relatively tidy (no silly colours) as i want to keep the truck looking smart. The only change will be that i will all be one colour which will include the wheel arch extensions and the lower front valence. My truck is the dark green and silver at the moment. its the rubbers for the window i cant seem to find though

Do a range of colours in photoshop and see what one you like best before starting

erm, im not that good at the whole photo editing. i tried to trayback my red surf and it just didnt work. i might just keep it somewhere in the green end of the spectrum as i wont have to change the v5 document then. although there are some blues that do look good.

I've had the spotted window rubbers before. Spray them with back to black give them a good rub with a cloth before doing anything drastic...
