[QUOTE=Paul1566;692606]Just typed in chandelier......... THE ABSOLUTE BEST bit was when google opened the image, in the background was men doing stuff...phwoooaarrrr...QUOTE]
I replaced both the front centre Festoon lights in my Surf with single LED replacements... When driving at night and then either getting out the truck or turning those lights on to look at a map or to find the bottle opener I was dazed and blinded by those. This is why I'm reluctant to buy those again. However the rear ones especially the boot ones would be very welcomed to bright interior lights!
Andy so you didn't have to use any resistors? Thats nice work!

Nope. If your chain of LEDs stays under their combined forward voltage (Vf) rating, your forward current naturally remains within limits too.
I started chaining up some red ones last night for the high level brake light (which looks like a very easy conversion), having made the rash assumption they were the same Vf as the white ones I've been using and promptly popped four. Rash assumption. I probably shouldn't do this stuff in the evenings when I've been getting up at 5am all week!
I finally got around to doing this mod to the front lights.
Just one small thing I noticed: the lights are a lot brighter by pressing the map light buttons than having the door open. Is this normal?

Sounds good but if it's not by design then may be the door switch contacts are a little dirty, restricting current? Does it do it with all doors? To be honest I don't know how the door to interior light is wired so this is just an assumption from me.

###### hell, i know this is an old thread but i had to post, i have replaced the centre light with an LED bulb and will do the fronts but putting those super bright jobs in the front seems a bit pointless?
The idea of the dimish map lights in the front is that you or your passenger can use them to read a map and not destroy your night vision at the same time, those super bright things will be unusable while your driving at night!

I used red leds for the map lights.
I too found that the white leds caused too much lens flare with my gen2 nvg.
You never use any type of white light at night, dim or not, if night vision is essential.
That's true to a point, my Shogun Sport had white instrument lights from the factory though, in the surf map lights the original bulbs give an orangey light that's sufficient for map reading or whatever you need to do.
Probably not so important these days with satnavs with their own screens but even those dim down at night (along with your instrument lights) to protect your vision.
It's handy to have nice bright lights, but your passenger can't use the front ones while driving if you make em to bright i think.
