Yeah, you missed out on a crash course in surf mechanics. I learnt a lot today.
Forgot to mention early, I actually sold our Zafira - took buyer for test drive and did the deal in the 3 hours, so think we did pretty well! Next one will be even quicker...
You can get the plus 2" springs from roughtrax, but being blatently honest, and others will confirm this, they don't give 2" of lift compared to what you are taking off.
You might be better having Landcruiser springs instead and forgetting about the coil spacers. Search LC springs on here and see what comes up.
Let us know when you've got all the kit and we'll have another get together.

I've got all the gear together for body lift (or at least will have once the bumper & rad brackets turn up), new torsion bars to fit and a pair of ball joint spacers...

Where are you getting the bumper brackets from? DIY'ed mine on for time being, but its not sitting square to the body.
Looks like we might have a decent meet coming up soon then!

Yeah Animal knows his stuff, that was good going considering you sold a car as well lol.
I'll have a look at the LC springs and see what i can find, def sounds like a better way to go, so if i use LC springs how much actual lift do i get from them?, not keen on messing with the torsion bar so will prob just change the front springs as well as the rear.

Should have all the parts in a couple of weeks all going well.

You should get a 3" lift from using Landcruiser springs (do a forum search and you should find the right bits to order and a good set of instructions on how to do it).

The only warning I'd suggest you think of before you spring into action (see what I did there?! ) is the recent report by a forum member who used Landcruiser springs and found that their Surf no longer sits level (half an inch taller on one side at the rear). I considered this route myself but it was just easier to plump for the Roughtrax +2" kit...

Also, assuming you have a 2nd gen Surf, the torsion bars ARE the front springs.

                  @zetec rob

Just so you know, to lift the front with the torsion bars, all you do is take the weight off the suspension and wind 1 bolt up. Thats it. Mine are about at their max and its still a comfortable ride. Or get some Ball Joint spacers and do it that way instead. I reckon the 1 bolt way is easier though!

So LC springs on the rear, any particular LC these springs got to come off? and play with the torsion bar, then the 2" body lift on top of that.

Sounds ok are the ball joint spacers needed and what about lowering the front diff?

Yes, thats what I was going to do, but I thought this was the "easy" way - it only uses 1 bolt hole instead of the 2 on the original. Just wondered if Rustinho's brackets were any better...

                              mate
go the +2" springs and spacers route(dont foget simon has a pair of spacers for a hilux sat around)
landcruiser springs will lift it but as has been stated they are not sided like the hilux springs so youll possibly get it sitting lower on the drivers side than the passenger side , and im sure a few people have mentioned that due to them being a different size , they dont sit perfectly on the top where they mount so you need adapters making really for them to sit right
bj spacers arent neede but with them fitted you dont have to crank your t/b up as much

as for lowering the diff , it is adviseable and i need to do it to mine , its pretty straight forward but the exhaust downpipe will need extending too as the front prop shaft will catch on it if the diff is lowered
