  • BMW alloy wheel selection

A few alloys have come on the market near me and I'd appreciate the forums opinion on what looks best

The first pic (A) are M parallel's.... the second (B) Breyton

Got to be the Parallels. Your car is far too sleek and low for multispokes.

Set 'B' for me, but a minimum 19". Not saying that to be different, they just suit the lines of the car better. A kind of 'looks like it's going fast whilst standing still' look.

Every other Bimmer has set 'A'.

                A no doubt.
B is like Halford bargain bin.

They're both round and look the same from the driver's seat?

                    A for me
B , in my opinion, look very cheap and chatty - sort of alloys sported by fiat punto's with quad tail pipes and bonnet sprayed matt black.

A looks good and business like

                      B looks a bit tarty.

                          I much prefer the parallels.

I think thet a set of AC Schnitzer type III (not racing) would look really nice on that 8er.

These are them on a 5 series: http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/foru...D=37403&KW=fey

Similar to the parallels, but a bit rarer.

                            Neither, keep looking.

Don't buy just because they've "come on the market". BMW have used some nice wheels in the past, those you've posted are not among them and neither work well with an ageing 8 series.

Ok lads... thanks for the feedback and I'm going with (set A) the 18 inch genuine BMW parallels as opposed to the 19 inch Breytons.

to those who might be considering bigger alloys for other vehicles the following might help, knowledge gleamed after trawling many other sites and speaking to BMW nuts.

19 inchs is consider to be a step too far for many as it compromises ride quality and handling.
a number Beemer owners went to 19's only to switch back to 18's because of this.
The actual tyre plays a huge part in ride comfort and the reduced band of rubber and air can ruin a cars comfort levels, they are much more prone to damage - buckling and pothole issues for the same reason.
Also the price of tires for 19 inch wheels goes silly compared to 18 inch and below.

Genuine wheels or clones ?, clones are much cheaper but are cast as opposed to the genuine items which are forged.
Cast wheels are weaker and heavier.
Also the real die hard enthusiasts can spot a clone a mile off.

Best quote - "19 wheels make the ride , harder than HOOKERS HEART"
