Saggy a**e syndrome, oh yeah its never been used for towing. So the one owner from new just decided to have a tow bar fitted for the cosmetic look.

This is a genuine question - what's the big deal if it has towed?
Or if any 2.4td car has towed?
Aren't they meant to swallow that type of work?
What goes wrong with a car that has towed over one that hasn't towed?
If he had taken his towbar off, would you be able to tell if it had ever towed?

Good point, however I think the issue is that, if someone states that it has never been used for towing as if it is some kind of advantage, and is actually stretching the truth somewhat then it is an issue.

Yes the Surf eats up towing, however the engine and transmission will be put under more stress than if it wasn't used for towing.

Tow cars wear out quicker period, no matter how well they are looked after, same as cars used extensively off road. The grey area is that cars that are used for towing or off road tend to be looked after better than those which are not so it kind of evens out.

I think the bottom line is, if it drives well, has been regularly maintained and doesn't have serious faults then it's a decent car if the price is right. Doesn't matter whether it has been used for towing or not.

The guy just shouldn't say it has never towed when it looks like it has. People don't tend to fit tow bars for the looks of the things. They fit them to use them.

As Andy says its no big deal if it has towed the engines are strong enought to take it unlike say a little Escort.
I was just pointing out the untruths in his description of the vehicle.

Your right m8 it isnt a big deal,and towing to a surf is just another day at the office.
But the thing is with this bunch of loons on here,is,they can smell BS even over the phone line and if there is photographic evidence to support their theorys then............. RIP IT APART THEY WILL. All in good taste I hasten to add but it just might open some ones eyes, and stop a bad deal or even save money.
