Bit of a job, as the scanner is taller and deeper than ISO. I had to relocate the airbag ECU and remove a plastic brace behind the console, but now all done. Had to cut down the wee plastic pocket a bit too, but my shades still fit in there. While I had all the mouldings out, I did a 'shiney' and polished everything up with black polish, including the gaiter with shoe polish

Also repaired the rear tailgate. Bit of a swine to get into! Ended up fishing down past the glass to open the lock, which had jammed when the barrel fell inside. Had to take off the number plate surround to reattach the lock barrel. Its only attached via two self-tappers into plastic! Crap design that, Mr Toyota. So I screwed it back on then reinforced it with hot melt glue. All working again!

Just need to source and fit a decent antenna for the scanner, and fit the 12V socket where the manky fag lighter was.

There's something, in the back of my mind, telling me I've to do a turd gen radio for someone...

Neat job, My 2nd gen dashboard is a bit of a pig to work on so if a 3rd gen is the same I appreciate your efforts

3rd gen is MUCH easier than 2nd gen, which is a pig of a job by comparison.

Nice work. I'm glad in a way that you have a Surf again!
What does that radio pick up? Will you use it just for off road or what? I'd like some kind of radio that would be more of a toy than anything. I'd use it off road if possible as phone reception is never good.

That radio picks up anything between 25MHz and 1.3GHz - which is rather a lot.

It's a receiver only. Yet to fit CB. Dont know whether I will. Might just go for VHF and buy a Clansman antenna off eBay for that Army-slag look

                In a way???

Are you going to have those little stickers next to the mag mount that says don't stand too close to aerial ?

Why only a receiver? If you don't mind me asking. I don't know much about radios (sorry!)
