    Hi,

Looking for a garage in Aberdeenshire that can do some work on my truck. AC Toyota won't work on it and I want valve clearances checked and adjusted if required. Has anyone used either the Elgin or Dundee dealerhsips and are they likely to have the full range of shims to do the work there and then?

Also need an engine knocking noise looked at, began about 4 weeks ago and although I have been told by 3 different independent garages that it is nothing to worry about, I want it diagnosed and sorted out for no other reason that it bugs me. I have had suggestions of diesel knock, valve clearances, air fliter and also been told it should sound like it does?!

Be good to know of anyone locally who either knows these cars or who is simply good with diesels.

    Cheers

    Ben

Any takers? If into flyfishing I could probably sort out something in exchange.

Possibly & probably but, the truck only stated making the noise a short time ago and I'd at least like to get to the bottom of what it is!

      Cheers

Not at all everything went great just that the engine was running very warm all the way up so I am going to do the transmission oil cooler and flush out the rad system as it looks like it has been in there since it arrived in the uk lol, also a quick question on oil pressure where about on you guys gauges does the needle sit? As mine never really came above the 1/4 mark and was thinking it might have been a touch low...

Got a list of jobs growing every time I look at the truck lol (not in a bad way) just things I want to tidy up / change....

So look out for "Project 8 Ball" coming soon

                      Hi Mal,

I'm between Fintray & Kintore. Are you THE place in Blackburn on the industrial estate where all the local garages send their fiddly engine stuff? Bombed down to Kinross today and the truck is sounding lumpy so will be in touch!!

Hi Douggie, pleased the truck behaved on the way up the road! I'm not a million miles from Ellon so will give you a shout in the next week or two when work quietens down. Thanks for the offer.

                      Cheers

                          Dougie

The oil pressure gauge is normal at 1/4, especially if its old oil it'll rarely go above that apart from the first few miles on cold starting, I have engine flushed mine a couple of times since getting it and the pressure now sits between the 1/4 - 1/2 mark when warm and dead on 1/2 when cold.

When you flush the coolant make sure you undo the heater hoses and flush these through separately, the matrixes are sometimes a bit gunked up. If you were going on the onboard temp gauge on the journey home then its pretty useless, it sits just under the half way mark and will only move upwards when you blow the head, don't rely on it and fit an aux gauge along with the tranny cooler and I also recommend checking the viscous fan is operating correctly, if not, it can be serviced with silicone oil from a model shop using 6000 or higher cst oil.

Since the head went on mine last summer I've convinced myself this fan is a major contributor to this cars head problems along with the tranny cooler, especially for towing, which is when my own disaster reared up. H

Well it would sit at the half if I was easy on the throttle but any hills or overtaking it would rise up... Would that be a fudged head? I was just putting it down to the rad needing a good clean out as the water is prity rusted up...

Hmmm will have a go at it tonight I think...
