Heres the crux of it, I've got a hilux with a scrap engine and have bought another engine but cant guarantee ive got the time to fix it.
I'm a self employed car mechanic but have far too much work on and a workshop full of cars
I bought the surf advertised as 'my mechanic told me the head gasket was gone' and took the gamble knowing what it probably needed a lot more.
So... head off and i found a hole in #1 piston, well theres a good start, so thats already a piston, possibly a rod and has the crank had it
So... I bought a 2002 engine which the seller wouldnt guarantee but it came with manifold/injector pump/pas pump etc
The new engine doesnt have a crank position sensor though so thats no good for the EFI but the new engine has a denso pump and i believe hat using that would get around the problem
So.. if i strip the two engines i could probably build one good one out of two, i can get the crank reground and the bores honed and the heads crack tested but is it worth the time and money?
or i could break the car and the engines and ancillaries and ebay them, theres 2x heads 2xinjectors 2xdiesel pumps 2xpas pumps a turbo then the bits off the car gearbox/torque convertor and clutch and flywheel off the new engine, starter motor radiator etc etc and then anything that doesnt sell can be weighed in, the car owes me £550 as it stands but i could probably get close to that breaking it and scrapping the rest
what would a 93 2.4 surf sell for? its got a good chassis, newish exhaust and has an m.o.t at the minute
any ideas?
