We have been with A-Plan for the past 5 years, but when we went to renew in April the premium had gone up by over £100! I am 61 with a clean driving licence and well over 12 years no claims bonus.
Seems every one is being hit with these high premiums no matter how clean your licence and age! Eventually decided to go though Swindons and quote nearly £125 lower than last year's quote!
I don't like dealing with Swindons but no choice really.

I am with Adrian flux from my previous car, i phoned them before i went to see my truck a month or so ago and asked for a quote to change cars, they came back with an additional £190 on top of my £280 i pay for my Golf GTI cabrio. I knew the surfs were expensive insurance so unsuccessfully trying to knock them down i left it at that.

I bought the surf, phoned back the next day to change vehicles without saying i had spoken to them, as sometimes the price comes in cheaper, they asked for an extra £350! i pointed out at that i had already inquired, they embarrassingly retracted and came back with the exact £190ish figure i had the day before which i did not give them?

So they must have 2+ prices depending on how they want to play it or how easy they think the person on the phone is going to be mugged? I have always known that insurance is a way they can rob you of your money, thats why they put you quotes up year on year as most people dont look at them and just accept, it is only now that people have access to moneysuppermarket.com etc that they can do it easily.

I have always phoned around for a day or 2 to find the best quotes, it has always paid off on the saving. finding the right person/company and it suddenly drops. The best was my golf GTI cab which i got when i was 20, cheapest i could find was £1100 3rd party only. one solid day of phoning around (pre internet) and i got £550 fully comp!

The con is the folks ripping off insurance companies, the premiums go up because of it, any and all claims have an effect legit or not, and it's not just car insurance or accidents either, injury claims specialists etc, encouraging people to claim if they fall over, get a grip, if you're genuinely unable to work and end up out of pocket, then maybe, but not just because you can. The insurers have to cover their payouts and make money for their shareholders, me and you... even if indirectly.

And ANPR is clearly of benefit to those abiding by the law.

I used to insure through Adrian Flux but the last renewal quote was far too high so I moved to Sky. Fully comp with mods, wife as 2nd driver class 2 business use and protected NCB. Parked on driveway. Im 59 full licence for 42 years no convictions or claims for years and years so have max NCB £250 for fully comp. Well over £100 better than Flux, Oh and tell em that you use this site and they give an extra 10% discount.

I had a similar problem with A- PLAN in november so I phoned them up, they had a relook at the ins companies and came back with an identical policy but £100.00 cheaper, I think they just re-submit with the same ins company without looking at options unless you kick off.

I'm 26 3yrs ncb and just renewed with flux for 400 tpft. My previous broker told me that the hike in. "No win no fee" personal claims is the main cause of the national increases!!!

                      Nice try

The firm that owns the company that my Mondeo is insured with posted a 22million GBP profit last year, and yet my insurance renewal is up £150 on a policy with no changes.

It is legalist theft pure and simple.

They are in business to make a profit... not to give something for nothing. Not happy with the increase, take your business elsewhere.

If you ran a business and made a profit you'd not start giving it away.

When BA and Virgin matched each others prices they were taken to court for price fixing.

As was demonstrated in my last post they are making a profit (what I didn't include was that profit was including the loss that their internet search engine had made because they had lost the market share).

When I first started driving (which was less than 2 decades ago), your NCD allowed your policy to drop each year. Now they put it up every year.

Profit is fine, extortion is not. What insurance compainies (all of them because they can price fix due to the computerised system they are running) are doing now is pure greed. Because if they can make 22 million after losses and pay outs, then they are still making a profit.

Change my policy, yes I will, but finding someone who is not useing the price fixing software is rather hard.

Sounds to me like you need to write to Vince Cable et al, as well as the press - I would assume someone somewhere has a campaign going on. It'll give Mr Cable something to do now he can't be "at war" with Sky/Murdoch!

                                It's not extortion?

Why do you have to find someone not using the comparison sites?

I compare every year, and don't always go with the cheapest, stuck with the same for a while as it was convenient and they are a big name, with the 6" lift and 3.0 it increased so shopped around.

I found mine on a comparison site, declared my lifts and still got a decent price.

And I'll say it again, they are in business to make a profit.
