Think he's on about this, I have looked at them before but have no need for another PC at the moment.

Took about an hour to build mine after weeks of deliberation over components, saved about a grand on a similar spec model in 2004, its still going strong and as fast as many more modern units, I'm about ready for a new one but think it'll be when this one dies, gotta get my money's worth. Sorry to say but I got mine ready made at a fraction of their price...

          i paid £400 for a Acer i7 quad core with 2 tb Harddrive, and 6gb DDR3 RAM

only thing it did not have was a screen and a decent graphics card.

Had a screen and a 1gb graphics card was only £70

there similar package was over £1000!

The last off the shelf computer I bought was my ZX spectrum.

I've built every single one since then, and it's massivley cheaper than off the shelf.
Less so now than 10 years ago, but still way cheaper.

You buy a new PC, and get a new hard drive rom drive wich you already have, then you get memory you could probably use from your last system, depending on how long you leave it, then another motherboard wich you may not need if the new cpu you have bought would run in your former one, and then another windows OS when you already have one.

A keyboard, mouse monitor and other bits you already have, so almost 75% of what you bought you already had.

My method is to stay at least 6 months behind the cutting edge, buy cheap and update the parts you need to update to do so.

My next upgrade will be new board and chip, everything else will do fine for another 2 years at least and that's from a PC gamers' point of view. For most people the system I have now if maintained (fresh o/s install every 3 months) will run everything they need for another 5 years.

If you can spanner a surf you can build a PC it's really easy, meccano is harder honestly.
