Why there are so many waterways blanked off on the head gaskets?

I vaguely remember seeing something about this on here a while back, unable to find it using the red button or whatever that thing is everyone always goes on about when someone asks a stupid question.

And, has anyone opened more up and to what effect?

iam realy unsure what you mean but if its what i have in mind
they not blanked off they are just not needed
the same shape fits other engines that have the blank bits open and maybe the open bit blank

Fit it the way it is, I asked the same last summer as the RT replacement was different to the one I took off, both RT and here told me it is fine, it is and no problems at 3500 miles now. H
