  • All these @* threads

I never, or rarely, look at these threads as the @ bit suggests it's a direct question or comment to a particular member.

However; I've noticed recently a fair few of them have been to ask general questions that could be relevant, or the answers beneficial, to everyone, or to ask specific members for spare parts.

So, I want to know if you all think these @ threads are open to all (if they are, what's the point in having them?) or are they pseudo private (if they are, how come they get so many views?).

If it is a general or problem question like you say then members should direct it at the forum in general because other members could get valuable information from the replies. Usually the questions are directed @ the experts for the right answers but these members are always active anyway so chances are they will see the questions and answer. I think it is important too that the title of the thread relates to the problem so that others can benefit in the future when they use the search function.

Why do these '@' threads get so much views? Because we are all nosey bast*rds by nature lol.

Yours is different as it was asking for more than one person.

I thought it just highlighted it for the relevant members.

If its not a PM then its not private! and if its posted then any member should be able to post a reply.

I tend to look, but would wait till the the @'ed person has replied before offering comment. Unless its important and had no reply after a while.

As for what they are, I guess its like shouting at someone across the bar, nothing that need to be kept from anyone, but you are aiming a comment at someone inparticular.

Like Martins post about the 2.7's, its aimed specifically at someone, but will be useful for someone to search for later for the same info, without pages of useless guesses or random unbackupable quotes from the internet from other people.

But where's the fun without unbackupable quotes. Without them there would be no 2nd gens getting 36mpg or 300bhp. We need trucks like that...

also adding a cup of sugar to 3gen fuel tank ups the MPG to 40MPG. IT says so on the internet so it must be true!
