  • Alternator belts

Hi, dunno if anyone remembers my thread about my battery, A/T Temp, water in fuel filter warning lights coming on?

Anyway, just managed to have a look at it with a working torch this time, and found that the 2 belts that were round the alternator were missing (found them shredded up on the top of the bashplate). Are they just called fan belts?

    These i take it?

Will replacing these deal with the 'water in fuel filter housing' warning light as well as the others? how long should it take a garage to fit them?

    Thanks.

Yeah, thats the correct belts. Should take no longer than 10 mins to fit.
If the garage needs any longer than that, then you probably have the word MUG written on your forehead, wipe it off and ask them again!

Nice one. Is the 'water in fuel filter housing' light likely to be related to the alternator issue? I take it all the lights should go out once the belts have been replaced and it's been ran for a bit?

If it came on at the same time as all the others, then possibly.

Unscrew the white plastic, drain tap under the filter to release any water in the filter to make sure.

All the dash lights should go out once the engine has started with the belts fitted.

          LOL, that'll explain it!

They are pretty easy to fit on a 3.0.

Good job its been cold, they drive the water pump too!!!

They'll need to remove the air con belt won't they? You sure it's only a ten minute job? Does the viscous fan need removing?

In the time it's taken to get this reply, you could have done it yourself!

Yes the A/C belt will have to come off.
No the fan doesn't need to come off.
