  • It's getting a bit shabby

    I have a 3L 3rd gen big blue surf.
It's a great car, starts every time and gives me all that I need, but it's starting to show it's age.

I'm wondering if there are any simple jobs I can do (or get someone else to do) to spruce it up a bit, both cosmetically and in the way it drives.
I'm thinking of spending around £500-£700.

    Things like;
fixing all the interior trim lights
getting all the suspension bushes replaced with newer/better ones.
    getting a body lift
fitting a remote fob to open the doors without using the key

Can anyone suggest any places and rough prices to get this done – or any other suggestion of what might brighten up the old beast.
I'm not that bothered about ICE, what I have works find.

I don’t off road it, although it does get driven to the snowy alps each year and has been known to be driven through a few very muddy fields and forests.

Also, when I've been breaking in the snow I've noticed the abs makes quite a hefty grinding noise with a bit of squeek behind it… is this normal? Or should I be looking at cleaning up or replacing a part (I appreciate that's a bit of a vague question)

(I know some of you refer to Surfs as he or she, I would use this if I knew, but I've never found out and I consider it rude to ask.

I know this is a bit cheeky, but there was a huge number of posts last night and mine got shunted right off the main page with only 4 views.
I hope nobody minds me giving this questions a sneaky bounce.

he should be able to sort most of what you want doing no bother - just might be too far south for you to pop down

I'm sure there's one or 2 up around your area willing to give you a hand.Like been said go for a all terrain tyre.
As with the ABS i got the same thing on mine and i posted about it on Monday. Its nothing to worry about.I even changed the pads as i thought that was the problem. While i was doing the pads i did notice one side of the disc were worn more that the other so i will be changing the disc very soon aswell

ABS makes all sorts of horrible noises - it's *probably* normal.

Replacing stuff like balljoints (Roughtrax), ARB bushes (Milners poly bushes), steering rack bushes (Milners poly bushes) etc will tighten up the handling a bit. A set of springs / shocks to lift you 2" can be had from Roughtrax for just over £300. A remote locking kit can be had from eBay for £20 and they are quite easy to install.

There! Spruced up, fresh handling Surf for less than your budget!

Was supposed to be a bit cheeky....

Hence my status under my avatar - seems to be because I am a newbie to this forum that it is ok for everyone to hang up on every word I say/comment I make - where some of you are damn rude to folk and its ok..

when i joined up, I was told that was a site full of nutty witty people with plenty of Banter

I guess as I'm a newbie I cant join in with the Banter..

tony - if you read this - I've sent another message

                        Ignore him !

Tony would be the first to admit that he's much better at fixing Surfs than he is at communicating - best bet is to ring him on his mobile

Life is too important to take seriously !
