I'll have you know, im sat ata desk...just replaced a whole(bl00dy heavy)hub assembly and im taking a little break...mind you i'll be done by about 9.
Every time ours palys up al, i switch the router off for a minute...always works for us.

The router is fine mate (it has a display on it ) and there are 3 people currently using it around the house to get on the net!

Again thats just an exe file, not the whole program, if i transfer that to the lappy it will then need to go on t'net to get the full d/l and install!

My daughters lappy wont connect to the internet!!!
I have tried 3 different ways,
1, O2 payg dongle
2, Usb wireless dongle on my networlk
3, ethernet cable straight to the router (a Bekin N1)

All types say they are connected, but internet explorer wont display any pages and tells me i'm 'offline'
Checked that the box is not ticked for "work offline"
So what the hell should i look at next.
(all 3 other wireless devices in the house are getting on net just fine!!)

Hmmm Vista...
Log on as Administrator
Start:
Control Panel:
System/Device Manager:
Network Adapters.
Right click on each one and select uninstall.
You will get the usual warning...go yes.
When you have uninstalled them all go:
Action
Scan for hardware changes.
It should then reinstall the devices and drivers and reset the default settings for the adapters.
Try that first.

I.E has a virus, tip lemsip down the USB hole.

Can't you get firefox on a memory stick from one of your other 'puters?

Just found an old magazine free disc with a copy of firefox on it!

It can't download a file if it cant access the web! (browser not working) so the fact there is a NETWORK connection means nothing!

That link you sent seems to have done something!! But IE still is not working
Since following those instructions and re-starting, all the auto updates are starting! (they have been sitting on the task bar unable to work!)

If you still cant get online, download winsock fix on another computer, save it to a USB stick and run it on the problem machine.
