Not so bad. I started looking at Jeep Grand Cherokees! You seen what you get for the money you'd pay for a ratty, basic 3rd gen?

A big V8, leather, satnav 5 years younger etc etc etc. The letdown is they break a lot, and in expensive ways, according to the reviews.

Oh you sod! I was joking about the Shogun but now I've been looking at the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CD and I'm really tempted.

Merc engine, reliable if well seviced and a very nice interior. I'm looking at the 2002 model so unfortunately it'll be £400 a year road tax.

Fair comment - I was actually referring to the 2.5 and the 2.8 oil burners but it would have helped if I'd actually said that ...

A mate of mine has one & he swears by it & it's nice inside with plenty of toys & gizmos.

                      Im not convinced.
If its not broke don't fix it.

There's a guy on the Lextreme forum with a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, 3.1 TDI who's ripping the diesel lump out and replacing it with a Lexus V8. Not for the reasons you would think, but because the diesel engine is so unbelievably shite!
Apparently, the Jeeps are a good truck, well built with a good chassis, but the engines/ gearboxes let them down.

My dad has one. It's uncomfortable as hell. He loves it, though. And I have to agree with Bushwhacker - the engine, though awesomely powerful (he has a 4.0 V8 IIRC) is nowhere near as reliable as the Surf's is.

As for Shoguns, I've looked at 4 Pajeros over the last 5 days, from Chesham to Essex, and Hemel to Guildford...and I'm buying (hopefully) a 3 litre Surf SSR-X tomorrow, instead. Honestly, I have never seen such rubbish! The Paj is fully loaded...but bear in mind that means there's more to go wrong. None of them had the aircon working in the rear, so I assume that's a common fault. All of them had electrical faults of one kind or another...nah, I'm sticking to Surfs.

My mate has a Shogun and whilst it does feel a bit more powered than the surf I still don't like it.
I find the seating position very awkward, it has leather seats and I have never moved around on a leather seat so much when it goes round corners, badly I must add. Just feels so like your on a boat.
My mate will admit that he wishes the Shogun was as comfortable as the Surf and as good on the twisty stuff. He also prefers the overall stance of the Surf not as high as the Shogun (probably slightly lower COG why it doesnt roll as much).
More load room in the Surf without those Huge wheel arches protruding in to the load area.
Say not always what you know, but always know what you say.
