If it hasn't been done already flush the system through and put an inhibitor in when you refill otherwise it's likely to happen again

how do iron fileings get in side a gas pipe anyway?
are they put in to fill up the air line cracks in the pipe?

                  Hello George,

glad to hear you have the boiler sorted, did the plumber put any Fernox in the sytem after flushing the pipes out ? All the gunge comes through the water system be it from a header tank or direct fill to your combi (whichever system you have) the iron bits are usualy the oxidised bits from your radiators ( thats why you should regularly bleed the air out of them) Oh and seen your article on the Rotherham paper ( was at Templeborough yesterday)
