  • Injector pump resealed, but...

The garage have a problem, The truck starts and
runs, but pours lots of grey smoke thru the exhaust,
and are wondering if it needs recalibrating now, they
have not opend the distibutor end of the pump so I
don't think so. It sounds like it's injecting on the exhaust
stroke. So, what about re setting the engine to T.D.C.
and removing the timing belt, then turn the pump by one
revoloution, to correct the timing? Any ideas?? please, please.
    T.I.A.

    Gman.

If there is a misfire...yes!. It is possible to fit them back wrong.

He did'nt mention a misfire, so I'll check tomoz.
When I changed the head, (over three years ago now)
I remember marking all the injector pipes so I did'nt
            get them wrong.

So, anyone know the pipe pattern looking at the rear
            of the pump please,

            Gman.

                Pump was removed.
That's what makes me think the pump shaft has been
turned, but lined up right, timing mark wise, but one
revolution too far, pump turns at 1/2 engine speed, making
it 180deg's out. If you Know what I mean.

I'm not sure you can get it 180 deg out, the cam and the pump are same size pulleys, the crank dosn't matter which of the two TDC's you use as the valves and the injection are the things that need to be in the right place, so as long as the cam and pump are right the crank dosn't matter as long as no1 is at TDC.

They may have got the wrong cam timing mark lined up, the cam goes at 6 o'clock, not 12 like most engines.

you can't see the corresponding mark on the head, you have to feel it with your finger. they may have assumed the notch on the cam pulley goes at 12 o'clock like most cars. Pretty shoddy, but possible.

This would put the timing 180 deg out.

Otherwise the tension between the cam and pump pulley may not have been right when fitting the belt, and when you fit the tensioner it'll pull the timing one tooth advanced. also pretty amature mistake, but worth checking as seen it done.

The end, it's all over, finished, done with.

It starts & runs spot on now, pump timing was 180 out?
and do'nt smell like a diesel spillage any more.
Thank you guys, for all your help and suggestions,
Stormy, that pump you are holding on to for me,
thanks, but I do'nt need it now, cheers.
