Sounds oddthat no paperwork of any kind was issued. It may well be correct process not to do this, but I would check!

    Cheers, Nick

So no paperwork...tell em to go feck emselves rich. Lucifer is not so significantly modified it requires an sva. If the plates are legal, the exhaust is legal...and it had a recent mot...well let's just say I've had this recently with a traffic cop and a hummer. He gave a pcv vehicle a prohibition for accident damage that occured where the hummer was parked...hard shoulder m20. He insisted it went to be re sva'd. He would not listen to me when I said it had recently been through it's certificate of initial fitness to become a pcv vehicle.
The car was seen a week later and the driver arrested. Let's just say that the outcome was the copper being eventually removed from duty at Hastings vosa station. If it's legal, which it will be, if it comies eith c&u regs, vosa will be more interested in it being mechanically sound. The police didn't give you paperwork because their powers in prohibiting a vehicle are actually quite restrictive. If Its legal they need vosa there...and if it's all above board tell em to feck off.
      No bleedin paperwork indeed...ar$eholes.

Can it not just be MOT'd? If it passes an MOT it must be road legal?

It was and still is mot'd Lee.I think the police are just trying to be picky or my neighbours from hell reported the truck and thats why i got stopped.Surely if the police followed me before then they could of pulled me then even if they were several cars behind,or even come to the house to see the truck if it come to it
Come to think of it i had coppers right behind me a few weeks ago and nothing was done or said so i think the neighbours have said something thinking about it.They will do whatever it takes to make our lives miserable

I would guess that if no paperwork was issued they're just hassling you.

Did you get any details of the police that pulled you?

I didn't think an exhaust needed to have a muffler (as long as it's not too loud) by law as long as it isn't leaking - as for number plates mine has THE HUNTER on it and has the SAS winged dagger (it was on when I bought it) and it passed its MOT ok.

Rich, don't be too quick to blame your neighbours.
The D & C cuntstabulary are pulling EVERYONE with any noise from their exhaust at the moment...having two sons I know, the youngest was stopped last week for the same thing (his exhaust had broken earlier in the day and he hadn't had chance to fix it) he got a ticket to prove it had been fixed and it was "legal to be on the road" within 14 days.

Number plate regs changed this year, but the regulations are not retrospective...if they were the majority of cars would have to have them changed although they were legal last year!
New plates can only have the makers name on them, but they can be mounted on a backing plate which can have ANYTHING written on it...
To do you for having Lucfer written on them they would have to find the manufacturer of the plate and the date they were made.
What have I told you about thinking Erroll

If it happens again rich make a HUGE fuss about it. (make sure that you have what they want on it). if its got a current mot is taxed and insured, and is roadworthy on the day, its not legal for it to be taken. i would re mot it asap...this gives you a vosa thums up as well. We just did it with 8 hummers and 2 excursions. The local police stop us all the time, but with ,in one case, an mot 9 hours old, their insistence that the vehicle was unroadworthy was kinda hollow...i just laughed at the copper who pronounced it unfit for the road. He asked me when its mot was due (as its done at an hgv/pcv test station, the ticket is still handwrittren and not on some database), when i told him 364 and 3/4 days time, he wasnt happy. Mind that had something to do with me telling him that his opinion obviously meant more than the vosa tester who had done the test only 9 hours previously. He got the right ar$e with me because i kept giggling and smirking at him.

Whats written on a number plate isn't looked at for mot, although its a legal thing...people used to claim "its a show plate" but now the regs state if its a proper number it must be made to the regulations...nothing else can be put on it and the font must be standard.
Exhaust noise for MOT used to state "comparable with a similar vehicle" now its been changed to something like "Un-neccesarily loud" and I think the system must have a muffler fitted....again a muffler must be there under construction and use regs, which are different to MOT and what the police will harp back to.
Having had conversations with Vosa through work, the police down here have a very poor grasp on what makes a vehicle un-road worthy, writing out tickets for "bald tyres" which are not illegal according to VOSA regs and measuring directives.
Basically D&C plods are ass-wipes and get worse when you prove them wrong and even worse when a third party re-inforces what you say..but rest assured, once they have your name/number they will stop you every single time you go out...my son has had to get rid of three cars because they have "marked the reg number" and he couldnt go out the drive,

Ffs. next time they stop you, jam it in reverse and run it up their bonnet.

Get out, pull out a set of nunchucks, rip your shirt off and start making monkey noises.

Kick the rest of their windows out and tell them that if they as much as stop you again, you will morph into pasty-man and fill them with a big void and cover them in pastry.

What have you got to lose?

K&S police do exactly the same thing to a certain limo company.....except, they have no power to prohibit a pcv,or issue a pg9...it drives em mad, cos unless vosa can attend, they cannot keep you.

Regarding the wheel arches. Its the rears the police complained about as the fronts have extended arches although they don't completely cover the tread pattern they were happy.I need to extend the rear arches by 7" so if i got some thick rubber and fix it to the underside of the wheelarch and bring out 7" then that should then make the arches legal shouldn't it or not

Thart sucks Rich, but, you should have got a producer, you get 7 days to get a MOT place to approve the stuff that needs doing, then you take the paperwork to the cop shop to get it signed off. Sounds like they where just trying to scare you off using the truck on the road.

MOT'ed dosn't mean its road legal, they are two different things, the plod are pulling you on construction and use regs, not MOT points.

The plate must have the postcode of the plate maker on it, otherwise its illegal. I doubt the truck is old enough to get away with the old No plate rules.

Use some think rubber (like cut from a water tank) riveted to the underside of the arches, it only needs to cover the tread, not the bulge or the side wall.

You be able to buy some mufflers to fit inline on the exhausts with u bolts.

I've never had my V8 truck over loud, it gives the plod an 'in' to get you stopped at the side of the road, then they can go overboard on the silly tihngs. best to keep it respectable sounding, cover the tyres, and they can't say much.

Welcome to the world of modified cars, you're now public enemy No1.

I usually completely debage cars down to the badges that leave holes - they stay (I hate dealer stickers and the like).

I got pulled last year because my plates just show the reg and nothing else - They have to, by law, display the BS standard number and kite mark for official plate conformity AND display the postcode of the shop that manufacured your plates.

I was let off with a "Get it sorted, son."

I contemplated the "Should be out catching real criminals" speech but thought it not wise with a jobsworth.
