  • The search didnt take long.. New rig

    Morning all..

Well my search didnt take long, it was helped by not being many around my area for sale.. I came across the 2.4 gen2 on here in north london, sorted a deal and picked it up last night..

its a bit rough around the edges, but will get stuck in soon enough, it came in under budget so hoping to get a cambelt and service done ASAP

As time goes you'lllearn my wife names everything, its a nice personal touch, so meet Cody

the name (she reliably tells me) comes from one of her favourite films that shares her love of penguins - the cartoon caper 'Surfs up' the main character is called Cody...

    Anyway

    here's some pics..

Thanks to Rich (stormforce) for answering a few questions i had and helping put my mind at ease

we picked her up last night, first impressions very good, drives nice, feels smooth, pulls well (better than i was expecting) and most things work

just need to now loose the wet dog smell (as wife is allergic to dog hair) and give it a really good clean in and out..

first up (hopefuly) get to tony next week for a service and cambelt change. Then sort the electrics and get the rear window working more reliably, then just enjoy driving around and getting used to it and its quirks

    So far we're very happy

i've already got an ebay watched items full of stuff - but time will wait, woudl like a little lift and bigger wheels..

but before that I may have lots of questions as i'm new to the world of both Toyota's and 4 x 4's

    thanks for looking

    Steve

Once you get a Surf you're hooked!

I bought mine a year ago and said: I'll keep it standard/won't offroad it

Since then I've modded it with bits and pieces - I've bought all the stuff for a suspension lift, have done a body lift - I'm looking for a snorkel and winch (after getting stuck in 3 feet of water whilst off roading) and am planning 33" tyres!

Looks pretty good from the pics. Are you going to get rid of the bird poo on the sides?

Bird poo - haha - yes, thats this weekends job
        one of the priorities!!

lots of little niggly things that I intend to look at too - it does look better in the pics - needs a good cut back and polish as paint is very swirly - bonnet doesnt quite line up and the bonnet strut on the passangers side very very stiff...

just want to get it serviced and then I'll be happy ...

Cheers again - I'm sure there will be loads of other questions to come as i start to learn and understand them better..

Lift kit - Could be very interested.. See how the funds are doing once I've heard from Tony about the service (and if there's anything hidden that needs doing first) then sort the window out

but then I'll need bigger wheel/tyres etc i can see me getting ito trouble with the wife..

Just show the Mrs some of the lifted trucks and she'll fall in love with it then and will help you spend the money on it.

yea but shes got no taste though. As long as she's cutting up a body and elbows deep in blood and guts then she's happy.
I'd love to see a body being cut up though

There's a truck round here with the same graphics, lol thought it was the same truck for a mo, but this one has a snorkel.

                          Looks ok so far.

It all depends - my Mrs fell in love with Tony and Linda's truck. Which reminds me Tony, when we pop round tomorrow, can you explain to her that 33s and a suspension lift are essential for some reason if you ever want to have puppies or kittens... I'll leave you to hammer out the details of how that works...
