I have seen that one advertised before - for a rather higher price. Find out how long he has owned it. Check for signs of head failure but if all on the level, then it is a bargain.

Signs of head failure? Would that be the following:

        Bubbles in the header tank
"Mayonaising" of the oil filler cap
        Steam in the exhaust
        Overheating

        Anything else?

I've seen that one too. I ruled it out because it needs about 300 quids worth of paint, and that implies the owner didn't really care about the details, so I doubted how well it was serviced. I mean, dings and scratches I would expect on a regular thug-faced mud-plugger, but this isn't one.

Or, the last owner was of the thought that money is best spent on maintenance rather than cosmetics.

              I'm just an optimist.

It was up for sale a month back for £2600.

I emailed the guy asking questions about the obvious thump its had on the front end and got an email back avoiding the issue just telling me to come and have a look because I'd buy it (He's only 3/4 hour from me, if that). I emailed him again asking if there was any damage behind the bumper because I wasn't that bothered about cosmetics as long as it was straight mechanically and he never replied.

Dunno, I just got an uneasy gut feeling and I've learned to listen to my gut.

It didn't sell at two and a half grand - and that was cheap for a diesel 3rd gen.

It's a private plate. He hasn't got the £80 to transfer it? (Ah, I see it's Fulham Football Club. And you are in Wales?... probably not his choice of plate).

Mine is going to be a D-reg...

How can you ask if it's 'to cheap' at £2195 and then say you'd only pay £1,800 for it?

If it were close to me I'd go and have a look, maybe offer him £2000 as it needs taxed. If it's mechanically sound then another £300 should cover the paintwork etc.

So in theory £2400 (including 6 months tax) wouldn't be a bad price, if there was no hidden damage like Apache pointed out.
