Hi All,

I'm planning to do a basic service on my 96 G3 3.0 SSRX, oil & filter, fuel fliter, empty water trap & grease required points. Other than this, is there anything else that should be done on a regular basis?

Looking to get a grease gun, is there anything special I require or will a Halfords job be fine and, what size socket will I require for the sump plug? Any other items I am likely to require other than basic socket set and screwdrivers?

If I were in the market for a new grease gun I would probably go for one with a flexible neck! Some of the nipples on the ball joints and UJ Joints/cardan joints are nearly impossible to get too.

It's a 14mm socket on the oil sump & 12/13mm on the transmission sump "can't remember which" but nearly everything on a surf is standard spanners & sockets.

Take marks advice about the grease gun & you should be fine.

i use a grease bucket with the big hand pump on
but take no notice of me mate iam not normal

Cheers Guys,

Any special tools or techniques required for a chaging the fuel filter? Seen a few posts about using engine flush, is there any evidence that it can cause damage in a Surf motor? My engine has just over 100,000 miles and is sound as far as I know.

Just twist the fuel filter off, as for flushing the engine I wouldn't bother.
If your changing the oil on a regular basis then you will be fine, I change mine every 5000 miles with an average 10/40 diesel oil & change the oil filter every second oil change.

I do the same as Si, but I have flushed this twice since I got it, (3 years) and it improved the oil pressure which seemed to be quite low, it now has better pressure when cold but it settles back as the oil heats up. H

Changed oil & filter today, sounds like a different car. Got most of the greasing done but could not find the nipple location for the ball joints

Didn't do the fuel filter, the clips holding on the fuel pipes don't look like they can be reused, I think once they come off that's them. Will jubilee clips be sufficient to hold the fuel pipes on to the filter?

No ball joint nipples on a 3rd gen, thats why you couldn't find them.

Your local motor factors will have the correct fuel pipe clips.
