Is The Transfer Box ....

.... from a 1996 Toyota Prado the same as a 3rd gen. I know a lot of the parts are the same but no idea if this is.

A guy from work suffered catastrophic damage to his (pictures below) and he's having great difficulty sourcing a replacement.

It hasn't got the 2wd option, and there isn't the solonoid for selecting 4wd that the surf has, its looks the same size and shape, but you may have to manually lock it out of 2wd somehow, so it stays in AWD.

I had great trouble finding a 3rd Gen Surf T/case, I'd have thought there were more Prado/colorados around??

I should have given more details Andy. It isn't just external damage, that hole was caused by internal parts being expelled outwards at a great rate!

The box exploded causing the casing damage, in the guys words, "My wife was picking gears up from Asda carpark after it went bang!"
