Am off to Barking right now to pick up my Lexus LS400...
Will tide me over while the White Bison is in hospital with Dr Tony, and then come November - under the surgeon's knife with the Lex-meister-general!!!

Tell me we're not spending lots of money doing the head on the truck you're putting the Lexus motor in in two months????

No! I had a 3.0L Auto, and the wife loved it so wanted to get another one when the lease expired on her golf. So I made the mistake of buying a 2.4, which blew up on the way home from buying it. Didn't think that I'd get away with persuading her that the ideal solution was a v8, but my powers of persuasion are legendary. And I may have lied a bit (or a lot) about some of the costs.
So then we found a 3.0L manual, which is hers. That was the one I blew up the other day.
The original 3.0 I will sell in November when Lex Luther is ready.
All sounds a bit nuts doesn't it?

So both trucks blew up when YOU were driving them?

Better fit a short throttle cable to Lexurf VI then!

I'm not going to drive the Lexurf Vince! What do you take me for? Some kind of hooligan? It'd get all mucky!
No I'm just going to park it in the living room with the bonnet up...

Here it is... Bodywork is pretty beaten up, and the exhaust has a massive hole in it. But otherwise seems pretty good. Certainly ate up the M25 last night.
            Not bad for £395!
            Bring on November.

              Marvelous!

Here's something that'll make you chuckle, the LS400 thats being delivered tomorrow, is the one from Reading!

Only realised yesterday after talking to the next customer.

                ###### hell - I cost him 200 quid then. Was knocking along at £220 odd until I piled in 5 secs before the auction ended. Please give him my apologies!
Unless you tipped us both off, in which case you'd better not let on...

I didn't point him in any direction where to purchase a Lexus, it's just coincidence that you both saw and bidded the same one. Apparently it's got structural rusting of the rear suspension, so would have been no good for you to drive around in anyway.

My wife has been driving it around. She loves it! Although she did say last night "it's a bit embarrasing though with the sound it makes".
Admittedly the hole in the exhaust makes a racket, but I couldn't help thinking "jeez, wait till she hears the Lexurf..."

Do you know where the exhaust is blowing?

It's usually the EGR pipe at the rear of the engine that goes from the intake plenum to the driver's side exhaust manifold. they are known for always splitting, and often don't get replaced as the MOT guy won't see it and it's a PITA to get at. It gets removed and plated over anyway before I install the engine into the surf.

I haven't had a chance to look at it in daylight yet. Will have a sneaky peek underneath at the weekend. Thanks for the tip re the EGR pipe. I take it there is not much that can easily be done about it if that is the problem?
I confess I haven't paid it too much attention on the basis that hopefully we will only have to use it until Tony works his magic on the White Bison next week.

Every V8 that I've removed from the Lexus has either had a split EGR pipe of there's been a DIY patch put around it.
Come to think of it, they don't really cause the exhaust to be any louder, so I guess one of the middle silencers on yours is blowing. (there are five of them by the way plus two Cats!)

One thing you can check for me, saves me doing it when it's here and waiting for any needed parts, is to check for any codes stored in the ECU.

Take a paper clip, open it out into a U shape, open the diagnostics port on top of the engine, or the diagnostic port under the dash down by the driver's door hinge, (Small grey plastic box with diagnostic written on it)
insert ends of paper clip into the terminals marked E1 & TE1, switch on ignition so all the dash lights are on, and see if the engine check light flashes.
Continuous flashing, approx two flashes per second means all is well.

Any codes logged will cause the check light to flash slowly with pauses between a number of slow flashes.

                          All explained here.......http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html

                          Ta!

No probs - will get to it on Saturday.

Bit more complicated than my usual diagnostic check, which is as follows:

                            1. Turn key.
                            2. If noise, good. Go to 5.
                            3. If no noise, bad. Hit with hammer.
                            4. If still no noise, swear loudly. Get bigger hammer and reboot diagnostic test. Go back to 1.
                            5. Is there smoke? If not, retry diagnostic test, but this time in the Surf.
                            6. Is smoke white? Excellent. Big noise-maker in Surf front, he make peace with White Man. Go to work.
                            7. Is smoke black? If so, is there still noise? If not, go back to 1. If so, check for flames. If no flames, go to work. Drive faster to thin smoke, otherwise vision may be impaired.
                            8. If flames, drive really fast to put out flames. By the way, flames look cool.

But do you know what the weird thing is - despite this sort of rigorous and regular maintenance schedule, I've had TWO heads blow on me in as many months.

                            Baffling.
