Thanks for the thought - that's very kind of you. Not much to be done in the event apart from sit it out and wait for the tow truck though. Home now thank goodness. I could maybe have limped home after topping up the coolant, but really didn't want to do more damage than is already done.
Now I've just got to work out whether I am capable of replacing the head myself, or whether I ought to just get the whole shebang done - new rad, head, temp guage etc. In which case I realistically haven't got the time (or the competence) to do it, in which case I need to find someone not too far away who could...
Tony in Basingstoke did my surf head replacement in either 2004 or 2005 I can't remember now it was so long ago. The girl is still going strong now.

      NO NO NO
Hope there isnt any damage I say this because I had my head removed and replaced on my 2.4 (for a different reason other than overheating) A few weeks after driving it coming BACK from a long trip she over heated. Temp in the red - was an air lock.
Filling back up with water and burping properly and zero issues ever since.
      Fingers crossed for you mate!
      Oh Nana, what's my name?

It helps if your homosexual friends ride along too though. Diverts the attention from you.

Well having had done to me by a "4x4 specialist" nearby what dieselboy's special friends like doing, I was rather hoping that I might be able to avail myself of Tony's services. Especially given all the positive feedback on the forum about his work and expertise.

Tony is brill! I've had work done by him in the passed. I would use him regular if I didn't do most of the work myself
Was this 4x4 specialist on the A217 by any chance?

No, a bit further out. Have a wild guess what it cost to remove the head and block and announce that they were both buggered. No parts, just removing them?

£60 per hour multiply by eight (if someone spent all day on it) = £480

                          hopefully not more than that!

No! Because I don't want to come off as an irritable TW*T

Can it take a specialist all day to take out a block?
Anyway, over six hundred of your finest English pounds.
Tony - I am serious. Do you have any capacity in the not too distant future? Can PM if you prefer?

                                Or what dates they've booked

To be honest with both my sisters truck and my own, Tony is the only other person I trust to work on them. It's just a shame he isn't closer.
