  • Advice on Lucifer

I am in the proccess of giving the interior of Lucifer a makeover.
What i want to know is that i won't be using the 4wd on it(its not connected anyway) so would it be ok the just cut the hi/lo selector just above the gearbox so i can fit the rubber gator properly to cut out some of the noise and cold air blowing up through.
Also it should be ok to take the front diff out completely and the front drive shafts have them cut off just before the hub so that the bearings etc are still sealed
Lucifer won't be used out in the icy/snowy weather as i am using it to hire out so i need to keep it in tip top condition.

Rich you big fat loser, I'm not helping unless you're trying to get the 4wd working and specifically use it in the snow!!!

cutting the lever is fine, I'd leave enough so you can still get to it from underneath, you never know if it got banged or knocked somehow you'd need to move it.

RE the hubs, the Birfs may rattle if you leave them in the hub, I'd take the shaft out completely, put the drive flanges back on the outside and fill the inner bronze bush with silicone or something. Or even machine a tight fitting plug to bang in them to seal them up.

Yea but i can't chance damaging the truck Tony.Saying that i suppose i will need the 4wd working if its being hired out.
Steve said it was just the Vac pipes that needed connecting up.
I'll leave it in place for the time and then see how things go when winter comes.
If i did decide to take it all out then would it be ok to just do what i was saying about then

thanks Tony.I'll see how things go anyway and then decide later on what i will definately do.It was just that if it was in 4wd then with the angle of the driveshafts i can just see them breaking and causing damage.

These hummers have had the 4wd dispensed with rich. They had to, to fit the new steering bar. It's overall effect, has Bern to make a crap motor...err...crapper.

My mum had that for shingles, but she got tremors so packed them in.

Told her not to wash them down with white wine.

made my mind up now and i am leaving the diff etc in place and i am going to cut the hi/lo lever down to just below the trans tunnel. It will then be fixed in place by a bracket incase it decides to jump out of gear. When its Lucifer isn't being used then the lever can be used as an extra security device as its out of sight
